Driving sideways through Honda Curve at Pembrey in my Tasmin Race Car desperatly trying to avaid a certain Mr Walden who was spinning in front of me (must admit at that point thought I was going to die ), finally got it back on the track half way down the main straight and even kept my toe in on the grass but didnt feel so clever after and gave graham a seious ticking off afterwards

Ted, that must have been one hell of an experience. How did it feel - urge, brakes, corners, gearbox etc etc? Lots more please!

I've only ever sat in a modern F1 car, and although 5'9" and quite slim it felt a tight fit to say the least. They had a problem getting me out of it (I didn't help much, I admit!)

TVR Tuscan on a thoroughly soggy day, unfortunately beaten into second place by...
550 Maranello at 140mph along the West Way on a lovely sunny day courtesy of HR Owen!

It has to be when I had my TVR S1 and went down to Le Mans with 30 other TVR's in convoy.

The noise and sight of 30 TVR's was only topped by a Lotus 350 and Cerbra passing me at full chat.

Can I have another go at this?

My first track day, at Castle Combe, in my Chimaera. At last I could really get to grips with the machine and find out what it could do.

Huge grin for the rest fo the week....

My A8 4.2 was run in. It was height of summer, and hot. I got the limiter taken out and got on the german motorway A1 at 4.30 am - it was just light. Engine was hot. Turned the stereo on full blast and put on Frankie goes to Hollywood". Floored the throttle Averaged 281 km/h for 38 minutes, peaking at just over 295 km/h.

Have since learnt that most A8 4.2 have around 340 bhp.

Walter, I'm shocked! You didn't know your car's BHP before you took delivery of it? Tsk tsk. Hand in your PistonHeads membership card at once!

sheessh! too many to list!! but in no particular order:
Malyasia, car - new proton gti (the lotus tweeked one)given the car for a weekend and told to go to Fraisers hill, part way there found road to Genting Highlands, about 8 miles of dual carrige way up a mountain. Only D/c I have been on with 1st gear harpins every 300 yrds!! and surrounded by jungle!! best part smokin the tyres from one hairpin to the next past the bemused locals!!

Spending two weeks working in the workshops at Beuliea motor museum and on my last day being taken for a blast around the grounds in a 1907 12.5L (and only 4 cylinders!!) Benz grand prix car. power slides on non surfaced roads in a near priceless car with wooden wheels and no front brakes. oh yeah!!

Transit van from stoke on trent to shrewsbury cross country. 2 am and no traffic apart from the 528i bmw in front. no idea how fast we were going but kept up with it all the way. at times we would be both drifting around the same curves almost in sync!! tranny vans rock!!

Lived in Jamaica for 6 months and while there drove all sorts of cars. The best fun we had was racing pick ups from Kingston to Ocho Rios over the mountains. North caost to South Coast. Poorly maintained mountain roads with huge drop offs, jungle and most other traffic on the wrong side of the road. Sideways everywhere and all in a pair of shorts and a 'T' shirt. Superb fun in the sun.

Several other moments in this country but that sticks in the memory as being just about the most fun !

Cheers

Burbling into a towncentre carpark last summer, top down, car sparkling in the afternoon sunshine, lazy V8 throb echoing off the walls, a small boy, walking alongside, mouth open in wonder, says something to his mother. His mother turns to her son and says "If you work hard at school, you can have one of those!"

Brilliant moment!

Sitting in a queue of traffic ni the Chimaera when a mother walks past with her toddler daughter, said toddler pipes up "Look Mummy a baby car".
Made me chuckle to myself for ages.

mine was rated at 300 BHP, later ones at 310 BHP. I've since learnt that Audi always rated the engines very very conservatively to make absolutely sure noone would be disappointed and that they were all around 340-350 bhp. You really got around 300 bhp at the wheels.

Coming back from Le Mans last year me and benno in our cerbies both overtaking a french guy in a 911 and he was REALLY trying hard too!! The look on his face will live with me forever!! Don't think he had ever seen a Cerbera before, let alone two of them
On a par to that was finding the old Rheims Grand Prix circuit in France a couple of years back. This place is still intact with all the grandstands still there along with a 2 mile straight! and on a PUBLIC road. No old bill in sight and 14 TVR's parked on the pit lane!! I won't ever forget the noise of my old pre-cat Griff roaring between the Grandstands at 130mph

WalterU,

Yes, I have had a string of Audis and Audi engined VW's.... You read the performance figures and think - Mmm, I am sure that it is quicker than that! A quick test and yep - it is faster than that.... Power is always underrated for them. Used to have a 2.4 A4, which is supposed to only have 165BHP (not much), however, would keep Citroen and Peugeot V6's (193 BHP) at bay....

And when you get to the turbo models it gets worse....

Cheers,

Paul

it wasn't the best ever, but a really pleasing moment yesterday. I was in my wifes TwingoComing up to a roundabout, I moved out onto the right lane because I was going off at the 3rd exit. A pushy Boxster coming up behind moved left, obviously intending to overtake me on the roundabout. Pushy bastard. We entered the rounabout about level, I gave the Twingo some real welly (and he couldn't drive), and by the time we both left the roundabout, he was around 50 yds. behind

It's not only what you're in, it's what you do with it ...

Unfortunately they have now blockaded the old Reims Grand Prix Straight and are going to knock down the grandstands etc I haven't been yet myself and have a few friends who have, incl. a 4.2 Cerberra that had been owned for only 2 1/2 days when it was taken to 165 + down the straigt with the biggest grin on his face, apparently. This year 3 friends went down and managed to move the blockades so as to get the cars onto the straight for a quick blat and a few photo's in front of the Grandstands.

Bloody shame it's going !

Cheers
