Ins quote for 15k a year incl Business miles - £830pa.

Thats near on 3 times the cost of the ins of my Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo for only an additional 120bhp.

M3s are expensive cars to run - insurance, tyres, servicing etc. Ontop of that you have the credit crunch and current fuel costs (although the M3 engine isn't too thirsty).

To most people the M3 probably isn't special enough to be a weekend car . Add all these facts (like many other performance cars) the market for M3s is getting smaller.

Welsh mate, you can buy a cosworth which may have 120bhp more than an m3, does not make it a better car lol.

Test drive one, you wont turn back mate!!!

Didnt you see the rest of that post that a 996 Turbo would only cost me £450pa like for liek so why on earth is the M3 double the Porche? The porche is worth a hell of a lot more now & clearly when new is MUCH faster and parts even more pricy than an M3.

Now do you understand why I wrote that. Note also that an E39 M5 is just a little more than the 996TT so again its nonsensical as to why the M3 is so much more to insure.

Because alot of them were crashed over the years and that makes them get blacklisted etc.

The 2003 and earlier E46 M3's all suffered from the engine failure issue with it's bearings - which is good bye engine if it happens. There was a service recall/action supposed to have been done but I have heard of quite a few cases where the engine has had the service action performed and the engine still failed - and in those cases it was big hassle getting BMW to pay out on brand new engines if at all. Hence most earlier E46's are relatively cheap - at least compared to the later 2004 onward M3's which should have had the engine modified properly in the factory to prevent the bearing issue.

I think I am right in saying the easiest way to check whether the car has the revised engine is by looking at the rear lights. If it has the newer style LED rear lights then it does. This was introduced in the 2003 model year.
