Hello

What are you guys opnions on these two cars.

I dont need a car for work, just for fun/social things.

I want a car that hopefully going to reliable and fun.

I like the v6 in the golf and the '4 wheel drive' system is good for saftey but its a bit bland and grown up. I would have to spend money on the suspension to get it up to scratch.

The seat looks better, has some nice bits (Brembo's etc) and is a more driver focused. But its a 4pot (not as exciting sounding as a v6) and its FWD.

What should be more reliable? I presume the seat would be cheaper to fix for general items and the 1.8t engine has LOTS of exposure so plenty of parts.

I have a max of 5k to spend and wish to keep the car for a few years.

Would the 1.8t golf be the more sensible option??

Thanks guys and girls

Never driven the Golf but the Cupra R is a fantastic bit of kit. One of the best FWD cars I have ever driven. (New one is good too but sodding ugly)

The Cupra R is faster and engines are pretty bulletproof (excluding minor things like coil packs) A better car than the Golf all round I think.

Both totally different yet both great cars.
4Mo is not especially quick but sounds great, is well built and with 4WD handles well. For a fat Golf. Very stealth too.
LCR is rapid, especially when mapped. Great brakes and great looks. Shame about the FWD and its subsequent inability to put that power down in 1st and 2nd. Does attract attention too (from morons in CTRs and Corsas...)
Both are very well priced too for what you get.
Drive both and see what suits you.

The golf is meant to be a more classy car with soft handling and a V6 which suits cruising where as the Leon is a lot more driver focused with lower suspension, bigger brakes and sharper handling. The V6 engine has a lot more character and sounds beautiful comparerd to the 20VT although the 20VT can be tuned with a £400 remap to give 270hp which would make a leon very entertaining.

although based on the same chassis they are two very different cars, you really ought to have a go in both.

Whilst i really like both cars a lot if it were me i think i would go for a pre 2001( to avoid tax hike) 4motion v6 for circa 3>4K or so have 1K or so toward a supercharger conversion giving 260-300hp depending on spec.

Both good cars but the v6 with a few mods (lowered suspension, remap, Haldex upgrade ) is a better car and the vr6 far more reliable than a 4pot.
