I really miss Retro Cars magazine.

I really like all sorts of cars so fanboy one make mags don't interest me and neither do articals about keeping the screw heads standard on a 1972 Morris Ital etc etc etc.

Retro Cars was basically exactly what I enjoy about tinkering with cars. Taking all sorts and making them faster/better/more fun and not taking things too seriously or becoming obsessive about one make.

ETA Holy st just done a search and it appears to be back!

and another. i used to like the feature where they took a car and dynoed it, corner balanced, went through the entire set-up, then took it out for a spin. always had a few 'interesting' cars in the classifieds too.

I used to like World Sports Cars and Top Car, both covered mad tuned up sports cars and exotica, from the likes of Ruf, Strosek, Keonig Specials, AMG, Harmann Motorsport, etc.

IIRC most of the articles (especially in WSCs) were by a Hans Jourgen Techar (or something like that). I remember reading the review of one of the mad Keonig's where he stated that after half an hour or so he was getting the clutch and only stalling at every other set of traffic lights hehe

Some of the cars featured were:

The original Harmann Leguna Seca based on the E30 cloud9

Keonig Competition Evolution nuts

Keonig C62 silly

Callaway Sledgehammer evil

Thems were the days...

I also enjoyed Street Machine in the early 90s, that Pink V8 powered minor was fantastic bow

Nope, completely separate. PPC probably picked up a lot of CCC's old audience though.
Indeed. Although I still say that "Scrapyard Bodger" is a more apt description than 'Practical Performance Car' which is why I let my subscription lapse after a year or so.

[Pedantic]Not in 1972 old boy![/pedantic] wink

Anyway, I'm struggling to find 'USED CAR BUYER' magazine lately. There was a small flurry of TV advertising about 4-5 yrs ago headed by Mike Brewer if anyone remembers it. They used to have useful buyers guides on the likes of e36 m3's etc.

I bought it religiously after that. Now though it seems to have disappeared off the shelves. Anyone seen a copy recently?

Sadly missed.
I picked up "track and race car" the other day, which was using the same title font and style, and said inside that they were trying to follow in ccc's footsteps.

I don't think PPC is anything to do with CCC? Usually a good read though.
Separate but PPC have some of CCC's old contributors.

I have the last ever issue, our very own Stig's supercharged Ultima on the cover.

The sequence goes:

Autumn 86
Winter 87
June 87
and then monthly.

So the only copy you are missing is December 87

No problem
Picture of BRG A-M DBR2 on cover
"Amazing Grace" Aston's DBR2 on the road + other Aston stories
Victor Gauntletts favourite cars
Rotting Bugattis follow up of Autumn 84 piece on a French hoard
Goodwood (long before the Festival and Revival)
Frazer Nash drive

I'm sure you'll find a copy on ebay before long

Small Car

No, it wasn't only about small cars, I remember reading a comparison test between two GTOs. They drove a pontiac GTO and a ferrari 250GTO down the A20 to Dover.

Had a certain LJKS writing for them.

It was Hot Car that became Performance Car in 1983.
