KITT was the first car that I really adored! One day, I will own an 82 Firebird. I don't care if they're crap. I just want one!

One day you will be mine...

1981 Lotus Esprit Turbo in Ice Blue.
Cycled past it everyday on my way to school.
Just stared and stared.

First two that made an impression on me were our neighbour's Minor Traveller (in Almond Green of course and sporting Town and Country tyres) and my Dad's HA Viva; JXE 128D where are you now?

The first car I can remember my Dad having, a green Renault 12. Most memories are being crammed in the back with all the luggage when we went on holiday.

My grandparents beige Volvo 244. The pinging noise it made as no one wore seatbelts then and how luxurious is seemed compared to all the other cars I had been in.

And lastly my neighbours yellow 2CV, known as the banana box. It took us to nursey school everyday. There was about 6 under fives in the back it seemed!

This, cos I had it as a toy when I was 4... (Still do somewhere!)

and this, cos my mum had one and it was great. Still remember sailing through 4" snow to go up north and passing a stuck range rover...
(with sacks of tatties in the back to weight the wheels down)

found out in July that some git sold it, we had it in the family from late 70's, but now its gone!

Ah yes, powder blue Morris Travellers.... my parents had two, from new, when I was a kid, following a green split-windscreen one. We used to drive from Cornwall to London and back in them, regularly, which in the early '60s, was quite a trek.

I soon discovered that immediately before I was born, my Dad had been driving one of these as his primary transport (1920-something Vauxhall 14/40):

I was just a teeny bit disappointed that it went before I was old enough to appreciate it.

However, a very close friend of my Father's made some money in about '65, and so had one of these (apologies for the poor pic., but it is the only one of a DB5 in that dark red colour that Geoff's was...):

That was the first car I ever went over 100mph in - nothing much these days, but a big deal in 1965. Definitely stuck in my mind (as did his "toy" train; an A4 Pacific Streamliner called "Bittern", in 12" to the foot scale).

A White Corvette Stingray in 1978 cool

It was so different to any thing else at the time, it looked like it came from a different planet.

Two cars for me. First is the Sapphire Cosworth:

Second was the Ferrari 550 after seeing it on TopGear with JC when it came out. He loved it, and from the front room of my mum's council house I decided that I would have to be a banker so I could afford one:

Never did the banker thing mind, thank fook! biggrin

The first car to leave an impression on me (literary) was a Renault 21 which I saw when I was about 4 or 5, moments before it hit me biggrin

For the benefit of those of you who may not know what this fine automobile looks like, it was like this;

Except I got hit by a brown one. Luckily I was fine, thanks to the fact it was winter so I was wearing big soft winter clothes and the car was going slowly when I darted out between some parked cars in the car park and got hit. My interest in cars really took off after that hehe

One of these beauties used to park in our street when I was a kid in the mid 70s. I think the owner used to date a girl in our street and me and my friends used to sit on the wall looking at this stunning car.

Remember when these came out and seeing my first one a few days later, another stunning design that still looks good or maybe even better with the passage of time.

Set me off on big engined rear drive coupes, although I have never owned either of the two types I will one day have an XJS.
