Granted I've not driven the rapide, but what is the point of having 4 more cylinders and an extra litre of engine displacement when its 40bhp down on the V8 Jag?
I was thinking that too, plus it's more than twice the cost of buying a Jag!

Nice motor though.
You don't buy Astons with your head,
I don't think you buy a Jag with your head either.

The equivalent S-class or 7 Series (or even A8 & Lexus L430) are probably better equipped, but the heart would still buy the Jag XJ.

I am probably the only person with this opinion, but the Aston. Blerg.

Seriously, what is everyones obsession with them? Yes the DB9 was stunning when it came out, but, come on, Aston are just playing on that now. The Rapide isn't THAT good looking, has a 'naff interior, (Come on, look at the dash/centre console) and is overpriced and useless.

Get an XF SV8 (Not the XFR, they ruined the interior with the stupid seats and nasty wood veneer), in Ultimate Black, Volans alloys, Ivory leather and Burr Walnut Veneer.

Take it to Paramount, get a smaller S/C Pulley, smaller Crank Pulley, ECU re-flash, high flow cats, S/S exhaust and Cold air induction kit. 520Bhp.

I'd choose that over either of the above.

Thanks All,

Jack.

The Aston, it's loverly, still it's a real testament to the Jag, that it's not disgraced here IMO, the Aston is way more expensive and looks it, but the Jag holds it's own against a very nice looking Aston in a way a BM would not IMO

And if you where buying an Aston with your heart surely you'd buy the db9...what could make you want this over a DB9?

Seen a couple of Rapides on the road and was very dissapointed at how anonymous they seemed, although one was black and the other grey. Somehow the new XJ seems to have more presence. Seems I'll have to have my XJL in black and Rapide in white as long as they dont clash with the red XFR and green Range Rover.Obviously I'll have to remember to actually buy the lottery ticket first!

The Jag is a fantastic car, I had one for 8 hours and did 200 miles on several different roads it accomplished everything very easily. Its awesome!

Who wouldn't want the Aston though, its an Aston!

Surprised the Quattroporte hasn't been mentioned. Much rather have that than the Rapide.

XFR is lovely though, as is the XJ supersports.

The Aston needs more power, but it is refreshing to see a luxury brand saying no to forced induction

You had me until you said the XFR seats were stupid.. they're the best seats in any current Jag!!

Also.. all those mod to get you 20bhp more than the XFR?? Shirly overkill?

I should be test-driving the Rapide soon.

I've been doing a lot of thinking about cars recently; in particular the Rapide, F10 M5 (not due until 2012) and XFR (despite the awful, awful headlights). It now looks as if a little complication is coming along early next year that will make the Rapide a definite non-runner and I'm going to have to do some serious investigation of the others to see whether there is any possibility of fitting three child seats - it looks rather too tight in the current M5.

I've even started to have some really quite odd thoughts, such as a 760 or B7, but there are none for sale anywhere, or, heresy of heresies, an X5 M, but that isn't available with a third row of seats. Will an X5 rear seat take three child seats?
Depends on what kind of seats you are talking about but this seat lets you keep the V10:

The pic is from a 3 series!!!
Maybe chop in the M5 for a debadged, de-quad exhaust, de-19inch wheels, rebadged 520d M5 Estate to complete the family man look??

That looks really uncomfortable and wouldn't take into account the fact that kids grow very quickly into any confined space like giant sponges. eek

Agree with both points.

I think the Aston is perhaps mischaracterized as being "a supercar that's been morphed into a luxury hatchback." It's clearly not a supercar with its performance stats and I don't think Aston intended it to be one. Although me wishing it had more power perhaps means I wish it was a supercar. hmmm.

Am I alone in preferring the Panamera to both of these (admittedly fine) alternatives?

SV8 is the 4.2 not the new AJ133 5.0 as per the XFR

The Aston is built in Graz, Austria. If he took the trouble to think about where the jobs behind each car lie, he might take a less emotional view.
