A nice informed opinion based on fact.

How useful

I tried it for the sake of knowing what the thing was about and wouldnt mess with it now. I don't know if i believe in it or not, but some weird stuff did happen, and we left it following its own advise.

If you are not superstitious or if you don't believe but still feel curious I would say have a go; possibly it is a psychological reaction more than a "spirit" talking, but it is interesting and you end up not knowing really whether you should believe in it or not.Of course, if you are a non believer and decide to do it, don't try to f**k it up from the beginning, give it a chance.

If you believe in all this supernatural things i would say don't try it; weird things happen when you use it and a lot of it will be self-motivated (I don't know how to explain it) since you'll be too eager to get in touch with the supernatural.

Whereas your counter argument consisted of carefully reasoned conjecture

No counter argument from me... chances are it is all bollox!

Seriously though, if the paranormal can be proved or disproved either way, then I'm prepared to listen, but I'll sit on the fence on this one for the moment.

However, I'm more incline to believe it is true than not due to the fact that I know several people who have told me they have used Ouija boards and been amazed/shocked/scared at what resulted. I have no reason not to believe them.

I have never heard anyone say that nothing happened or they caught their mate with a magnet under the board, therefore the weight of 'evidence' is in favour of the paranormal IMHO.

As far as I'm concerned, you can't say something didn't happen or doesn't exist just because you haven't witnessed something for yourself.

PS I didn't write any kind of counter argument as I was stuffing my face with PIE at the time... just wanted to comment on the lack of reasoning behind Alex's comment.

My uncle was a missionary in Africa for most of his life as a priest. Whilst over there he was intrigued by the fact that a certain amount of people with psycological problems had previously dabbled with the occult.

When he returned to his parish he studied about the relationship between psycological problems, the occult and the paranormal. As a consequence of his study he became an exorcist for the last 15 years of his life and kept detailed diaries which I now have.

Having read one of the the diaries I don't doubt that he came across what can only be described as truly frightening events which leave no doubt in my mind that spirits do exist including the ones that are served in a glass

OK, maybe you can't say with absolute 100% certainty that something does not exist because you haven't seen it, but you can form an opinion based on the balance of probability (in fact all opinions are so, otherwise thay would be facts!). I've never seen a unicorn, but I'm damn sure they don't exist.

As for ouija boards it is MY OPINION that they are interesting from a psychological point of view, but it is MY OPINION that attributing any paranormal influence to their behaviour is BOLLOX.

All I am guilty of is stating my opinion as fact, something I do all the time because I'm always right.

My Dad was always delving into the paranormal when we were younger.

I remember Mum going to the clothes shop once, and just before she left the house, she'd ask him what he was and he said he was a medium.

Its all a mystery to me.....

You lot are hilarious today. Seriously, pause and think for a moment.

Ouija is a BOARD GAME manufactured by Parker Brothers/Hasbro. Do you seriously think for a moment that they have some shaman or gypsie at the end of the assembly line waving a dead chicken over each and every board the machine stamps out?

Surely they have more than one, so they'd have to work in shifts. Is there then a witchdoctors union? If they bang their knee when doing the voodoo dance, can they claim Necromancer's Comp???

Everyone has a friend who has seen wierd shit doing the Ouija. I've seen wierd shit too, either sleep deprived in the woods, or when the Jack Daniels meter reads half full. That doesn't make a very compelling arguments for ghosts. I think you need to ask some more questions before establishing a belief in a piece of pressed cardboard.

After all, I can dip my nuts in Hershey's syrup, but that don't make it a hot fudge sundae.

Ah, this is what I love about PH. Take a serious thread about the paranormal, and it descends into knob-jokes within two pages!

Publish. You'll make a packet.

I was an unbeliever until I tried it years ago. Scared the living crap out of me and I wont be doing it again.
