I will be surprised if we don't have a safety car. Bumpy street circuit with lots of torque and lower grip is going to equal cars spinning off into the barriers.

Agreed.

I can see a lot of oversteer moments into the barriers ending peoples day

I don't think anyone is going to catch Merc, but I am interested to see how the rest fair - Williams especially, with aero negated they might be in good shape for a podium?

McLaren need to stop the rot here.

Force India didn't have a very good time in China, maybe they can bounce back too.

I think compliance in the suspension is going to be really important here - if the car bounces over a bump and the back wheels spin the driver is going to be having a bad time. If the car can absorb the bumps the driver can keep the power down. Especially important this year because, as we have seen already the cars are more susceptible to wheelspin. Will not be surprised if we have a big accident or two.

I think it'll be a great race with the cars moving around a lot.
Good point about suspension compliance Crafty_...

Yup, and with that in mind I'm expecting a nightmare for the McLarens, they still persevere with this rock hard car that shakes worse than Lindsey Lohan locked in a dark room.

Lewis for the win, Nico to stack it into the barriers at T1 chasing him

Then about 40 seconds behind A Nother will finish.

You would have thought the back of grid, no real hope teams would make a pure Monaco qualifying car, with everything set up purely for one fast lap at Monaco, then make use of the fact overtaking is difficult at best round there to score useful points. Put it on pole, even back down to 10th or out of points completely would be a potential championship decider for Marussia or Caterham.

Lewis is a monster around Monaco, but he is prone to chucking it into the barriers...

Nico may be that little bit more measured.

Should be a fun weekend!

Surely they'd have some sort of monaco specific torque map to reduce wheel spin

Lack of ££££s.

I heard Graeme Lowdon last week saying that Marussia knew exactly what to do to make the car go faster. They just didn't have the money to develop it.

As a few others have noted, Williams is going to be interesting to watch here, they have a lot of low speed traction, even compared to the Mercs and Red Bull.

I mean right from the start of the championship, throw everything at building the car for just Monaco, and just do your best with the result everywhere else. Its a risky strategy I admit, but as far as I know no one has ever tried it.

Ah, I see. Sorry - I misunderstood.

Nico has good form here but Lewis seems to have better feel for a car that moves around under him so my money would be on him to cope. that said the randomness of Monaco and likelihood of a safety car could throw the result into a bit of a lottery.

I'm going to buck the trend and say a Williams be the first past the chequered flag. After that Rosberg then Hamilton. Rb and Ferrari 4-7. I don't think Merc will have it all their own way at Monaco though so maybe just one Merc driver on podium (or whats left of it after Maldonado crashes in to it on his way to the shops the day before smile )

The beauty of Monaco is that it is just a total lottery (in so far as it can be with the tech/planning that the top teams have).

In the last race I'd have given a Mercedes 1-2 chances of about 80%. In Monaco I'd give it 50% at best.

Low grip, chance of rain, safety cars, barriers etc will all add up to the fact that it's just a bit of a free for all - which is why we all love it.

Not forgetting that Maldonado will be there. It remains a possibility that he'll somehow manage to crash into the moon creating a wicked high tide meaning there will be a lake as they come out of the tunnel.

I read somewhere earlier that fuel as well as engines has been important this year. Apparently Red Bull had new fuel in Barcelona which was one reason for the increase in the speed of their car. The other interesting thing is that all the Mercedes team bar one use fuel supplied by Mercedes team supplier Petrobas, the exception being McLaren whi use fuel by Mobil. This is apparently one reason they are wlower than the other Mercedes teams.

Read either on Grandprix.com or Pitpass if the latter it didnt appear to be a Bernie article!
