Ferrari will reportedly be bringing a major car upgrade, both aero and powerplant.

Can't wait for this. I'm heading over to Montreal for the GP weekend anyone else going to this?
I think the mercs will walk away with this.

Apparently the forcast isn't clear for the weekend, it could be mixed conditions.

One of my favourite circuits and a great way to round Sunday off after going to Oulton for the BTCC.

I'd really like to see a Williams or Force India driver on the 3rd step.

They stole a spare car from Mercedes?

Slightly O/T, but did anyone see that Lotus have given Maldonado a shiny new Evora?
I heard that a while ago. Reason is the new evora hasn't been euro Ncap tested yet.

Caption competition, anyone?

One of my favourite circuits...almost always a good race due to safety cars, weather and plenty of passing opportunities.

One factor to consider is that teams have fixed gear ratios for this season.

For those teams that aren't championship contenders, I wonder if any have chosen a ratios and set-up that gives them plenty of points at low downforce Montreal, Spa and Monza to the detriment of their chances at slower circuits.

Around 2009/2010, Force India seemed to have a great Spa/Monza car which netted them more points at two circuits than picking up one and two points at a range of tracks.

Good point.

I think RBR will really struggle here - they were using top gear (8th IIRC) at points on circuits that the Mercs were using 7th - can't remember which circuit. Could have been down to better traction but likely shorter gearing as well.

I can't see it being an issue, not only are there more gears available, the torque means teams haven't had to stack them as closely, and whilst some teams have already being using 8th gear more than others, you have to remember that most of them are changing gear at 12krpm - there's another 3krpm left if they want it for the straights.

The extra revs available are essentially unusable with the 100kg/hour fuel flow limit.

That's why you'll not have seen anyone revving over about 12K rpm generally (the highest I've seen anyone go so far this season is Force India with just under 13K rpm in quali, transient)

they are not unuseable, just not optimal. power will drop off above 12k but you can still run up there if you need to.

"Unusable" and "power drops off past this point" are essentially the same thing in F1. Nobody has specced an 8th gear like that in 2014.

If you're interested enough to go and take a look at what the teams are actually running, have a read of this http://www.f1technical.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4...

This will be a Mercedes walkover with a likely Hamilton win; with the only interest being the race for the scraps.
But even then the gaps seem larger between cars than previous years, so..

I think Lewis tends to do rather well here even in a car which doesn't dominate, so I imagine he is going to do very well indeed......
Well that's completely flawed logic because he's never been to Canada in a car that dominates.

2007?
Not quite in the same way this years Merc is dominating but it was by far the best car in the field that year.

Looking forward to it, hopefully Grosjean will be able to get some speed as Lotus has been a bit of a disappointment this year on pace ('no shizzle Sherlock').

On the wall of champions? I wonder if it will be one of the Merc boys put in the wall pushing too hard.
