I see there are still tickets available for next weekend's GP.

As I haven't been for over 20 years, I have a few questions:

If I got general admission tickets (Sunday only), how likely are you to get a decent view in the general areas?
Following on from that, what time do you really need to arrive?
How bad are the queues in and out these days?
£50 to park - really! Is the park and ride any good, or will it be massive queues for buses to get out?
Any tips on what to take etc?

Two general admission and parking for £357 or grandstand seats for around £500

Should I just stay at home and watch it from the comfort of my TV?

Rip off prices.

Watch it on tv and with the money you save treat yourself to a weekend away (and visit Spa?)

Park & ride is £16 so much cheaper.

Having been up there for WEC there's plenty of areas with good views, just get in early to secure a spot.

Those who think it's a rip off, the circuit are held to ransom on the hosting fees...

OK scr3w that. The GA tickets have gone up from £150 to £170 since this morning! Grandstand seats up as well.

I presume they are still expecting to sell out then, as that's two ticket sales they have potentially lost.

I will watch from the comfort of my sofa as per usual!

Silverstone isn't a sell out for one simple reason. The rate at which they increase ticket prices.

2012 was a shambles. So what did they do? They split the top grandstands into Zones which of course brought new higher prices. The bottom zones remained the same price whereas the best zone meant an extra 20%. I voted with my feet and won't be back unless I buy a last minute cheap ticket on ebay or something.

We went to Barcelona for 4 nights an general admission for sat and Sunday for circa £500.

No thanks Silverstone.

I have to agree. The British Grand Prix is an excellent track but £72 got me a 4 day ticket with seating on 130r at Suzuka last year and Monza with a grandstand seat on the Parabolica/start-finish straight this year was £120.

If anyone does go to Silverstone with general admission I can only recommend getting to the entrance gates when they open which is, I think, 6am or so? There was a rush at that point and within 30 minutes the best spots near us had all gone.

I would have to agree

Went with a pal a few years ago (the one before the circuit layout change) and got to the circuit about 5am for the gates opening @ 6.

Hundreds of spectators queuing and we were lucky to get one of the last remaining trackside spots at Abbey.

Yup, agree - if you only have GA you have to be there for the gates opening at 06:00, and then once you've bagged your prime spot you more or less need to stay in it until the race starts.

Scour Ebay over the next couple of days pick up a very last minute bargain, we got silver grandstand weekend tickets a couple of years ago on the friday from Ebay for less than we'd have paid for two GA direct from the track.

Turn up at leisure use any of the grandstands on Saturday and then get to your seat at whatever time you chose on the Sunday.

However if given the choice i'd go back to Spa. Cheaper, better track, GA is more than acceptable.

I am afraid that there are reasons why the ticket prices need to be so high.

I am sure you all know!

I am going on Sunday for the first time with general admission tickets. We're taking the megabus to Silverstone, which arrives at 10:00 so we're a bit stuffed when it comes to getting there early.

Any advice as to where to head / where is slightly less populated by that point? I see people saying things like 'take all the food / drink' you will need for the day - is that a reality or just more practical? There are only two of us, and we don't mind a hike.

Any suggestions gratefully received. Cheers.

I don't think they can justify 20% increases?!?

We had that and 4 day entry tickets for £500, makes Silverstone look obscene.

You could try the area in front of the Club grandstand opposite the Pit Entry.

I always brought my own food and drink as I never fancied queuing for 30 mins to buy some over priced crap. Same with drinks.

Oh and it's Silverstone. So I always brought change of clothes for when you got wet. Jacket for the wind. Cap for the Sun. Suncream. Umbrella. And due to 2012, Wellies. Most of this was left in the car but Silverstone really is the only place on earth that you can get soaked to the skin. Get Windburn. Get Sunburnt. All on the same dayyes
