Hungarian Grand Prix 2015 - advice sought

Evening all.

Did try searching the forums but as I couldn't find anything useful thought I'd pose the question. A group of us are thinking about attending the Hungarian Grand Prix this year since we've so far estimated the whole weekend will cost us probably about £50 more than a weekend at silverstone.

My question is: anyone recently been there / done that? Any advice on places to stay / avoid? Better to go with a travel company or book everything separately? Is travelling to/from the circuit easy enough?

Any information is much appreciated.

No doubt people here can advise on the track - I have not been, but the friends who have been to Budapest have nothing but great things to stay about the place. Sounds like a great idea compared to Silverstone prices.

Not been to the race, but have contemplated it.

Budapest is a great pair of cities, try and stay in or close to the old city, much nicer place, decent bars and restaurants, if a little more expensive.

I went 2014. Budapest is a great city. Not too expensive though they do load the hotel rates for the GP. We stayed in the 5 star Continental Zara. Not what I would call a 5 star but not bad and reasonably well located for about £110 per double.

Easy to get to track, though a long walk possibly both ends depending on where you stay, if you use the bus. We had a hire car, access and parking very easy.

We had grandstand tickets for the last stand on start finish straight, good view of cars there and glimpses of other corners. I went with son who is a team member, so we had pit access for practice and got a great view from the top of the team's hospitality unit.

Hope to do somewhere else this year but wouldn't hesitate to go back to Budapest.

I did This in 2013, took my wife and son. booked flights with Easy jet and hotel(5*) on the internet.
GA tickets (£89) kids free.
If getting a bus or train to the track, as said its a long walk
ended up getting a cab (35euros)
Great fun.
11 nights with tickets and flights was about the same cost as 3nights at silverstone...

Great place to see an F1 race. Small circuit with decent locations for the grandstands so you can usually see many corners. Grandstands on the last corner are my preference.

For once, an F1 race that isn't a complete rip off price wise.

I get a taxi to the circuit and then the free transport back - but don't go immediately - have an hours of beers before heading down the hill to avoid the masses.

Only downside, is the 2 years I went 2012 & 2013 the temp was extreme. Prepare for all day in the heat, little shade, etc.

Budapest, great place to visit, decent hotels and very good food.

Budapest is a great place, v friendly people, nice city, good food. Can be hot at that time of year.

In my view most European F1 tracks are better than Silverstone when you need to go and watch in person.
