Whats Lewis waiting for?

Do you really think his thought process would go
"Hang on a minute, McLaren have done OK in the first few races here - sod Mercedes where I've built up a team around me and won the WDC in a dominant car with a dominant engine, let's get back on the blower to Ron"
If the McLaren Honda is the same step ahead of the others as the 2014 Merc was last year, then, yes, he'll be begging Ron to have him back."Hang on a minute, McLaren have done OK in the first few races here - sod Mercedes where I've built up a team around me and won the WDC in a dominant car with a dominant engine, let's get back on the blower to Ron"
But it's a big if.

IF Hollywood did it he would be a Black rapper from NY who wins the "NASCAR Cup" and marries Miley Cyrus
And he'd be Lewis Trickle, or Hamilton Trickle. And the MTC would be a chicken shed. And Ron would tell his boys to fit a set of tyres "race-trimmed and matched perfect".suffolk009 said:

He'll renew with Merc with performance clauses built in, leaving him an outlet if required.

Winning car, that is all that matters.
That, and his desire to emulate Senna.
If McLaren have the fastest car by the end of the season, he will want to be in that. As every driver will.
For most drivers I'd agree, though jumping into the fastest car certainly didn't seem to be high on Lewis's priorities when he moved to Mercedes. That, and his desire to emulate Senna.

If anything I'd say he seemed more interested in a team that could deliver in the long term. I don't see him bouncing around the teams like Senna did.

Possibly, and I agree on the team bouncing. But didn't Ron promise him an Orange McLaren F1LM if he got 3 titles for him?If anything I'd say he seemed more interested in a team that could deliver in the long term. I don't see him bouncing around the teams like Senna did.
I can see him finishing this year at McLaren, maybe 2016. And then a 3yr deal to close out his career at McLaren, assuming it performs...

He doesn't need the Mc-Honda to be faster than the Merc, or even close, it just needs to show enough development potential after the first few tests/racers that it lets him push better terms on the Merc contract.
Not sure you understand racers. They want to be in the fastest car. If the McLaren is the fastest with the biggest development budget, that is the car they want.No point in coming second and being the richest. He has what he needs financially, the £££ is just ego polishing at this level.
Ross sold him a good (and correct) story about the Merc development roadmap.
Honda could do the same.
Remember at McLaren his 'image rights and all sponsors are McLaren controlled'. He is owned by Ron and the marketing del and they demand more than their pound of flesh. They also don't have the income required to reimburse Lewis and won't have for two more years. Jensen took a big pay cut to stay with the team and Alonso carries some Spanish money with him to help with his huge salary. Mercedes don't have so may sponsors and have deep pockets for F1 currently.
Ferrari have the deepest pockets and can you imagine Lewis with Vettel....not sure the delicate Italian management could deal with these two going off.
Towards the end of one's career, and Lewis probably has 4 good more ones left, the money is more important than anything else once you have a couple of world championships on the mantlepiece. Jets and retirement don't come cheap and you won't be earning so much after 34 years of age.....just ask and driver in the last ten years how they have had to re adjust....even if they have £50 million in the bank.

If Hamilton goes and is replaced by someone cheaper, Rosberg will simply win the WDC instead.
A lot of supposition there old chap.Hamilton is a sentimentalist. He let his relationship lapse because he didn't want kids. Why didn't he want kids? I bet you a decent sum it's the old "having kids costs you half a second" myth.
Senna is the most important reference he has in his F1 mind. If he could win his third title in a McLaren Honda, do you think he'd pass up the chance?
I wouldn't be surprised if he's only prepared to commit to a one year deal and Mercedes want more.

Lewis will be looking for a 3 year deal with Merc...he won't be wanting to go back to McL where they keep all the trophies, dictate a st load of sponsorship time and committment from the drivers and spent a good few years ballsing up what should have been championship winning years. Oh, a quick prediction, 20 years time, a Hollywood movie on Lewis Hamilton.
How a little black kid from the ghettos of Stevenage made his way through the most prestigious sport in the world, and became champion. (alot of which being true).
And act two will begin with his return to McLaren, after Alonso's second departure from the team. How a little black kid from the ghettos of Stevenage made his way through the most prestigious sport in the world, and became champion. (alot of which being true).
I've always likened champion drivers to cats.
Feed a cat and show it love and it will hang around. Stop feeding it and showing it love and it will very quickly disappear elsewhere of its own accord.
As soon as Lewis' diet of race wins and championships becomes more fugal, he'll be off. See Alonso and Vettel for more information.
The only driver of this ilk that I can think of that this didn't apply to was Jacques Villnenuve
