if i was Renault. I'd build myself a brand new engine based on the lessons learnt over the past year. then I'd fit it in the back of a Redbull and get on the pace. What about the token's I hear you say? Easy. Renault withdraw and the new engine is called a Nissan. And miraculously Nissan announce a plan to enter F1 with immediate effect. Job jobbed.

2 problems:

1) even the FIA are not that stupid
2) where is the bag of cash to pay for this?

It is really is not that straightforward to add an engine provider.

1) I think they are. they aren't great at making rules. And if Renault leave that leaves 3 teams without an engine. So Nissan would be welcomed with open arms.
2) bag of cash comes from the Renault budget already assigned to the programme.

in F1, if you have enough money, it will happen.

I think the F1 strategy group have a veto, or at least it needs their majority approval.

1) they pull out they are in breach of contract with the team's who will look to recover their losses

2) what money?

They need at lease half a billion to do the job properly, this.is why they are so crap to start with.

Ferrari realized how bad they were and stepped up to the plate , spent the cash, now reaping the benefits.

1) two teams that most fans would not piss on if they were on fire.
2) bag of cash won't pay off Mercedes, Ferrari & Honda who would have to agree to it after spending enormous sums towards a formula that Renault themselves are the architects of, and Ferrari never wanted. All three would be apoplectic.
Could not have put it better myself.

1) Renault say to Redbull, we're quitting, but we're coming back as Nissan with a much better engine. Redbull happy!
2) Renault may be bksed, but Nissan coin it in

again, Ferrari et al are not in the position to add teams to their roster, or more specifically the ex renault teams are not in a position to pay for engines. Thereby the FIA step in and make it happen.

FFS do you not know anything about formula 1?

From your postings, it's damn clear that you know less about F1 than pretty much anyone else on here...talk of Viry building new engines, switching budgets to Nissan, total utter BS and it's a surprise given your occupation. Do you engineer ashtrays for bicycles by any chance?

There are a lot of people on this form who have experience in F1 through teams, partners and sponsors. Many of us are avid observers of what is possible and not possible based on the power base currently running F1.

What experience can you bring to bear to show that your hypothetical scenario is possible?

a big fking bucket of st and a massive spoon to stir it with. I take it all back the F1 forum is much better than the general motorsport forum. The speed of response is amazing. The replies are still wrong, but the speed.... hehe

Anyway what experience do you bring to show that my hypothetical scenario is impossible?

So, whilst we wait for Vaud to provide his bona fides, why don't you enlighten us as to what your connections within Nissan, William, have said about building another engine. Because you seem so certain that this is a foolproof 'backdoor' for the group hehe

I thought Audi said they'd only buy into F1 in Bernie walked.

Bernie then said if Audi bought in on that condition, he would walk.

Maybe RBR don't want Bernie around??

That was all about Piech and Bernie not liking each other. Bernie wouldn't quit to have them come in, he was just making waves as a taunt.
Piech has gone now, so the whole thing is kinda irrelevant imho.

For clarity I have followed F1 for about 32 years. I kind of fit into both categories:

There are a lot of people on this form who have experience in F1 through teams, partners and sponsors. Many of us are avid observers of what is possible and not possible based on the power base currently running F1.

I have been involved on the sponsor side in the '00s. I still attend a few races (often with paddock/team access) and have friends who are much closer to the sport than me.

I do follow the machinations of the strategy group but won't pretend to have any special access or insight there; their ability to block - and their core behaviours are well published and discussed..

So "reasonably informed, avid observer" these days. HTH.
