McLaren lose Tag Heuer
Discussion
I'm not disputing the figures. But how on earth did Ron/McLaren get Honda to agree to such a deal. I just can't see what Honda get out of this. As someone from Renault said a few months back, the engine manufacturer gets very little of the plaudits when a team is winning, which takes a HUGE amount of money and resources, but gets a lot of the flak when a team is performing badly.

Well partly Honda loves racing, and i guess also feels unfinished business. the history of mclaren-honda as well. mclaren also probably said we need investment for tooling/hire staff etc to get the chassis right, no point in your chaps supplying a great engine (no laughing) and then us produce a dud chassis. £100m to Honda within its R&D/Marketing budget isn't going to be the end of the world. Remember in Merc hey day with McLaren they paid them around £40m a seasonrevrange said:

Honda isn't a car enthusiast with a taste for Motorsport, it's a multinational car company with an obligation to maximise the return to their shareholders by selling cars. If F1 helps them sell more cars then their investment is a legitimate business expense, if not it's no different to me billing my company for a night out at a strip club because I love naked women...Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
