I couldn't care less what channel it's on as long as it's free-to-air and there are no ad breaks between lights out and the chequered flag.

Exactly, it really doesn't matter which channel it's on as long as the above criteria are met.

Under the circumstances, the C4 deal is a very good outcome for F1 and its fans.

The alternative is Sky only, which would be much worse. Ask cricket fans what it's like having no live sport at all on free-to -air TV.

Sorry, I won't be signing any petitions.

Amen to that

I'd sign any petition that forces the BBC to be impartial on anything.

I'll sign anything that gets rid of Suzi Perry.

You would really prefer ads?

In preference to continuing to fund a ridiculously inefficient organisation like the BBC, yes. As someone else posted earlier they have almost 30x as many staff as C4, do they output 30x as much?

We find we watch loads more channel 4 than BBC, so when it was announced that Channel 4 had it I was delighted.
BBC could save cash by scrapping st like the one show, which is basically a platform for so called celebs to flog whatever bks they are up to..
Get shot of BBC let it sink or swim on it's own..
We record 95% of what we watch so adds are either fast fore warded, or recorded stuff on catch up and box sets, don't have adds..

Oh well.

I couldn't give a monkey's about an organisation's efficiency as long as they produce material of interest to me - with the bonus of no ads.

Although is this going to degenerate into the thousandth BBC Bashing thread on PH?

I think the government have bigger stuff to worry about than F1 at the moment, besides, as said, it has nothing to do with them anyway.

Understand your point of view Eric but the BBC already has quite a lot of 'advertising' in terms of trailers for its own programmes (even the News FFS!), albeit not in the middle of programmes.

Accepting that the license fee may not seem a lot to some, the total spend of almost £4B is 3 or 4 times that of other networks, and is basically a tax on us all. If Government can't make the BBC more economical, I think they should be made to go commercial.

And that is crucial. It's the non-interruption that really makes the difference to me.

They've got rid of one programme I usually watch. There are plenty more left that I like - so I'm not giving up on the BBC yet.

Agree with this, the no adverts during the race sells it to me

Why petition against Ch4 showing F1? Ch4's F1 show will be very similar to the BBCs coverage (being produced by Whisper Films - owned by Jake Humphrey and David Coulthard).

The only difference will be a couple of adverts in the build up to the race and the analysis afterwards. I doubt many will notice much of a difference.

Is that a fact now? I'd heard a whisper smile that they were going after something but thought it was Formula E.

I wonder how much of that big hole the 'old' Top Gear filled? I bet they're crossing fingers that 'new' TG is as good as the old for the coffers of BBC Worldwide...

The BBC is being systematically destroyed by this government, and they are doing it in order to hand all the content to Rupert Murdoch, so he can charge for it.

And everyone is acting like sheeple, letting it happen.

The fact that the BBC badly needs reform does not justify the current butchery.

Of course it is, nothing to do with the BBC Trust or the executive board then? The BBC is a complacent, arrogant dinosaur and if the management are not careful it will go the way of Leyland.
