The George medal isn't really to be compared to the honours we are discussing here.

John Surtees was also the first winner of the CanAm championship.

I guess SM knew which people to suck up to, and given their respective personalities, having met both, I'd rather address JS as a 'sir' than SM.

I've spent a decent amount of time with both to be quite happy to address either as 'sir'.
