Steve Jones is a risk - but so was Jake Humphrey and that worked out
I think it'll be okay, DC and Jake (They own the company producing C4 F1) will have chosen him for a reason.

Does Steve Jones know anything about F1? Is he a fan? Suzi Perry was a dreadful choice for BBC F1, though I thought she was good on the Gadget show.

From Motorsport.com

Steve Jones said.....

"Even though I'm not an expert, DC is an expert, I will have to know a certain amount. And I am confident I am there now.

'F1 presenter Steve Jones confesses that bringing a bit more fun to F1 on television is essential.

"We're hoping to bring that Channel 4 presence to it, in the sense of making it just a little bit more fun where appropriate – and obviously it speaks volume of there being an entertainment presenter at the heart of it," beamed Jones at the official press launch in London on Tuesday.

"I can't stress – where it is appropriate – I am going to be banging out zingers left right and centre, but I just hope to get a bit more from the drivers.'

Better line up than Sky, IMO.

Only one I am saying an outright no to is Nicolas Hamilton, don't see what he will bring to the table at all.

Are you aware that he is the brother of the current world champion? wink

Actually I agree with you - I can't imagine he will say anything other than reminding us how great Lewis is, how humble his beginnings were and how hard their father worked. I hope he proves me wrong.

Maybe he will be the "celebriti" correspondent- oh look Lewis posted a picture of his dog. Wow. And here is a picture he posted wearing that great big "fk you" gold chain making him look all gangsta init?

He's also been racing cars for 4 years (Clio Cup UK, WTCC and BTCC). He's not been that successful, but he has at least competed.
Given that he's got cerebral palsy he is a bit of a rockstar in terms of what he's done with what he started with.

It'll be interesting to see what he thinks of stuff.

I hope he's not been included because he's black and disabled, as the token "inclusive" measure, that would suck.

Don't forget that Channel 4 is the UK channel for disabled sports. It will be covering the Para-Olympics this year - as it did in 2012. So I am pretty sure that including Hamilton is part of their ethos of including such people in their line up.

I'm hopeful that C4 will do this well, they're also doing the odd programme around F1 to help the "wow" factor that everyone seems to have forgotten about, there's a Coulthard Vs Guy Martin programme scheduled for just before the first race where they pit an RB8 against Martin's Superbike. Whilst it's something that's been done before, it'll be a great tool for getting people to understand just what astonishing machines F1 cars are and get excited about it.

F1 is far too serious and self-ansorbed and seems to forget that at it's heart it's about cars and drivers pushing physical boundaries whilst we gape open mouthed at how they do it. This sort of crossover programme to excite people is a good sign in my eyes.

Surely this will just remind us that other, more exciting, forms of motor sport exist.....

"Look at this guy (pun) wrestling his two wheeled monster around the track while Coulthard putters round super smooth trying to make sure his Pirellis don't fall apart."

Nope, it will remind of how much better V8 f1 cars are

I think your comment shows just how divorced even we fans are from it now and how we've lost that awe at how these cars actually work. Something that F1 desperately needs to get back in this age of extreme sport lunacy available for free on any device at any time thanks to Red Bull, Monster and other horrible drink companies.

Why did we all get into F1 in the first place? For me, it was because it was sheer excitement at seeing monstrous cars being driven by monstrous talents as well as the technical joy of the machines themselves. I didn't really care about the racing in terms of BTCC bumper car stuff, it was the blend of technical innovation, bravery and simple wide eyed astonishment of watching cars do things I didn't know were possible.

The current cars are astonishing, they truly are. Hugely powerful and significantly faster than the things I grew up watching and yet despite the technical innovation, we're only talking about tyre compounds or other such trivia.

F1 is still an astonishing sport full of intrigue, bravery, skill and technical development that warps the mind of the average punter like me, but the marketing of it is truly abysmal and is leading to the cries of "it's dull, it's rubbish, I'm going to watch something else" and that's from people already invested into it, let alone the new generation of fans who aren't being engaged.

C4 seem to recognise this and I'm hopeful they'll do a much better job of getting people interested in the sport again. Guy Vs Coulthard is a great puff piece to get people talking about F1 and bikes and motorsport in general. I'm sure we could all spit holes in it and many will say it's dumbed down rubbish, but I'll bet social media will be full of it and kids and adults will be discussing it over the next few days. Which is exactly what F1 needs, a bit of life being shoved back into its decaying corpse.

If anyone was wondering about Suzi Perry, she's going to be presenting the MotoGP races on BT Sport with Craig Doyle. http://beta.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/12317...

No one was...

...but she's back where she belongs with MotoGP so she must be pretty happy about that. Far too often she would call the drivers 'riders' haha!

Reminds me when ITV took over in 1997. They threw the kitchen sink at their presentation - until sense prevailed and they cut down the numbers a bit.

I was hoping for Gary Anderson to be on board - he was the best thing about BBC F1.

Sounds like Murray's contributions will be similar to what he's been doing with the BBC over the past few years.

I guess they'll roll him out for Silverstone then.

I like Murray but I fear he is being somehow coerced into continuing to work for BBC and now C4.
