It's not that Murray simply loves the sport and takes every opportunity to promote it?
He most obviously does love it, but at his age his mind is probably not what it was. It would be awkward if he ends up commentating in some capacity and in confusion gets all the names and facts right, and starts being really clear and concise when describing the action. It could be quite distressing.TheInternet said:

Saw SJ on Chatty Man last night. No idea who he is. What on earth does he have to do with motorsport? Comes across more like a Radio 1 presenter than a serious F1 presenter. Have they just roped him in to be 'down with the kids'?
Probably - he used to present T4 shows (the teenager morning Channel4 stuff) and he presented USA xFactor for a year before he was dropped. I quite like his presenting style and humour (my wife watches xFactor - I sit there on PH if I can stand it - Honest), but, as I said before, I liked Suzi Perry when she did the gadget show.Emeye said:

I have to be honest, I reckon it would be much easier to convert a competent presenter into an F1 enthusiast than an F1 enthusiast into a decent presenter.
They have got about 50 pundits to string together the technical stuff. What they need is someone who can competently present the information.

Reminds me when ITV took over in 1997. They threw the kitchen sink at their presentation - until sense prevailed and they cut down the numbers a bit.
And in retrospect was a good package, was pure luck getting brundle, an ex driver who could talk and was very technically savvy. Emeye said:
I thought Jake was already a sports presenter or F1 fan?

He'd done presenting duties for the BBC on Football Focus, Final Score, MotD, Commonwealth Games, Beijing Olympics, SPotY, NFL and Superbowl prior to the F1 anchor role.I guess with his xfactor experience Steve Jones will be ideal for when they present the best driver as voted by the viewers award. Though apparently that is likely to be won by the new drive from the Philippines as everyone there is an fanatical F1 fan and there are an awful lot of them.
