F1 on Channel 4

But not on their coverage.
Basically they got in to a bidding war with Channel 4 for the rights to The Chain as their intro music. Sky were looking like winning the bidding war, until Universal Music, the rights holders, saw the dollar signs and decided to then up their asking price, with the result that both Sky and Channel 4 walked away.
I doubt very much that you’ll hear The Chain on an F1 title sequence ever again.
Thanks, interesting bit of info. That’s a real shame though, I had assumed C4 retained it for their 2019 highlights coverage.Basically they got in to a bidding war with Channel 4 for the rights to The Chain as their intro music. I think adding Stefano Domenicali to the team is a smart move. Not only is he a nice guy but gives them some access to Ferrari on top of his experience.
Billy Whizz will be good with and be able to relate to the rookie drivers and the younger audience.
Not having "The Chain" as the theme tune was much weirder than I thought it would have been.

I've always liked Stefano; he's very much still used to being the interviewee rather than the interviewer, but he'll improve. Todays (full) race coverage on Sky One wasn't remotely comparable to C4s show last year.
Just how degraded is C4's coverage this year going to be forced to be, as that will undoubtedly be the way I'll be watching it? Definitely not paying for Sky Live races on the strength of what I saw.

I thought that the C4 graphics, the plethora of adverts and the overall editing ruined the coverage. Too many replays of pit incidents, disjointed coverage of the race interrupted by yet more adverts....
But I won't be paying to watch it on Sky. My primary platform used to be Sky on satellite and that's what I still have (non HD), whereas my primary platform is now Freeview. Sky is now very poor value for money for 'legacy' customers and it's only because I couldn't stomach the faff involved in changing to something else that I still pay for it. But emphatically NOT for F1!

He also does all the practices as well. That’s a lot of yakkin over a season.
I don’t think there’s many who’d bear listening to for that amount of time.

I think the Whisper Films producers now have so little material to work with that they are desperately struggling to fill the time. Given the constraints Sky have imposed on Whisper I can't see they will be able to get anywhere near the quality of programming they produced last year, which is a shame as I think they did F1 much better than Sky did.But I won't be paying to watch it on Sky. I hate Sky for ruining FTA coverage of F1 & I'm never going to pay the Sky tax.
The few bits of Sky stuff I caught around the qualifying were so bad that for the race I switched it on for the warm up lap, kept the volume low enough to just about hear what was going on and then switched off after the race. I'll be doing that all season as Sky really seem to have gone out of their way to dumb everything down as much as possible (I switched it off when they had Sainz blindfolded feeling his Dad's hair).
Between that and the mandated ruining of the C4 coverage we've really gone massively downhill in the UK on F1 coverage in a single season. Such a shame as the C4 team and production company have and could do a brilliant job with an F1 weekend if let loose on it again.
