Not just the silly "coming up next" that's back. There's the bonus of the return of EJ in Baku as DC has other commitments.

I wonder who they'll slip into the commentary position alongside Ben?

Man, the C4 coverage is miles better than the Sky.

Having a delayed transmission obviously helps, but yesterday, they were way above the 2-hours I could devote to SKY. Ironic that the intermissions were crammed with ad-slots for SKY F1. rofl

Even from the off Croft can’t callt it right. I have neither 20/20 eyesight not 4K TV, but it was obvious that BOT had bogged down and HAM was pulling past having left a load of rubber on the parade lap.

Croft immediately yells that that “ Bottas leads Hamilton “.They could do better from the studio, or the pub. Their production team can only see that the way to improve the show is to employ yet another couple of retired drivers.

The whole SKY coverage seems pretty useless and totally fails to highlight the technical excellence of the sport.

They showed a monoco F1 race from the 90s on youtube last week . I only watched the first few laps but the amount of cameras and the speed they switched between them is beyond anything they do today.
They seem to have a habit of switching away from the action at critical moments in 2019.
The torpedo incident springs to mind from sunday where there was no satisfactory view off what
the idiot was up to.

I don't think SKY has any control over the live feed.

Liberty control all race output. They just seem to have lost their touch since Bernie’s day. There was an interesting post a couple of years back that suggested moving from 4:3 to 16:9 frame size had a huge affect on the apparent speed of target car.

Perhaps moving to 4K TV could have had a similar impact. However, I do think that current onboard cameras give us a fantastic perspective these days.

It wouldn't surprise me if Croft was paying Sky to do the commentary for them, not the other way round. The guy is pathetic.

It's really not as easy as it sounds. They have 4 or 5 screens with timing on it as well as looking out of the window onto the pitlane. They're not always looking at the world feed as we are. It's not an easy job at all and getting it right in the spur of the moment is very difficult.

Controversial statement I know, but James Allen still does live commentary on BBC 5 on the same races and he doesn't make the same mistakes. Allen took a lot of stick in the ITV days but he's learned since then and Sky could do a lot worse than sign him.

Irony none that Allen replaced Crofty on the radio when the excitable idiot moved to Sky.

That's the one thing I don't like about the Channel 4 coverage, is that Lee isn't there anymore.

Still though, I've watched far more rugby now that she's presenting that. So every cloud etc.

What is DC off to do?
Alan McNish or Jolyon Palmer would both be great replacements.

Just said 'other commitments' on the programme, and that the presenting will be the Steve and EJ show, which may be brilliant, or a car crash, or brilliant because it's a car crash hehe . McNish will be probably at Formula E that weekend. Same for Dario Franchitti who I thought could do it.

Mark Webber?
