What was all that with 3 Porsche's, Tom Cruise and Top Gun on C4's highlights tonight?!
Annoying top gear style crap.

Presumably because Top Gun 2 is released in a couple of days time?

Also presumably filmed a long time ago as the film has been delayed twice because of covid.

The whole piece, or at least all of the on-location filming, was shot in advance of and shown before the Silverstone Grand Prix. It was pretty much a full repeat, which is why even Steve Jones couldn't bluff away his embarrassment for introducing it for a second time.

Ears pricked up in this house at the first mention of Tom Cruise. How is he relevant?

Of course, it was a generous helping of self-promotion, allotting a significant portion of the Spanish Grand Prix coverage to sponsored content

Last two posters have it on the button. It was originally filmed last summer in advance of the second delayed release of Top Gun - Maverick and shown at the British GP weekend coverage, then the movie got delayed again.

I suspect Whisper Productions had done a deal with Cruise that he would appear FOC in exchange for the publicity on the week of the film release, plus it was quite funny seeing it again (the double-take from DC when Jones says "I've watched the volleyball scene HUNDREDS of times......." wink ).

The preamble on C4 was so mind numbingly boring and cringeworthy, I resorted to reading a book until the race started.

It’s almost enough to motivate me to take out a sports pass on NOW TV.

you can watch the sky highlights on a NOW TV ENTERTAINMENT pass (channel SKY SHOWCASE), which is much cheaper, and run, i think, just before C4's highlights.

my partner got it for like £1 a month for 6 months.

i cannot stand C4's preamble and they live in a bubble world as if your watching it live and they are delivering it live. just give me as much track action as i can get , plus post race interviews in the contracted hours you can C4 - i've already caught up on everything else on the internet and dont need presenters being suckups to the teams and drivers.....

Thats an interesting development...

Is that full race highlights? And do you know how quickly the race replay becomes available?

Disappointed with the C4 coverage from Spain.
I don't mean the inane contributions from Steve Jones (I was prepared for those), but I thought it was supposed to be highlights of the race.
The coverage restarted after the advert breaks and it seems missed out some important overtakes and pitstops. It was not live so I don't see why they couldn't be shown and the commentary was just the live commentary so did not tell the viewer what had been missed.

Yes, parts of the race had me baffled trying to work out whether there had been overtakes and / or pitstops. It happened on at least two occasions through the ad breaks. Mainly surrounding the top 4, but I struggled with some of the mid pack movements too.

Yes, Russell mysteriously ended up behind Bottas after the ads, must have been 1st pit stops

And mine!

They seemed to think it was ok to just let the viewer catch up off the back of the commentary. How hard would it have been to drop a quick bit of voiceover on it to catch the viewer up?

It was a repeat of a piece they did for Silverston year or the year before. I assume it was repeated now because I heard through the grapevine that Tom Cruise has a new film out smile

It was rather good though even although I has seen it before.
It was absolute cringeworthy b*ll*cks... Very sorry you thought it was worthwhile viewing, but each to their own I guess

It was terrible and dragged on for far too long.

Who was actually driving the third car? Billy or someone else?
