I watch the coverage occasionally but the other day I found DC's interview with Toto on the C4 Sport website. Absolutely fantastic interview with some great insights. Helped of course by the lack of time constraints, it clocked in around half an hour.

None of the usual team available it seems so they had to rope in Massa for significant air time, bless him he's knowledgeable but not the most charismatic presenter.

And he considers Max one of the top 5 drivers of all time.

With no mention of Clark in his list of the other four (Fangio, Senna, Schumacher, Hamilton). That will upset a few on here.

I think many agree - he just needs the stats to back it up.

Do C4 take the highlights as a completed package or do they have any editorial input?

I'd say he's defo top 5. Did you watch Sunday's race or any of this season? Perez in equal machinery gives you an idea of just how much faster he is.

Hes won 2 championships, and is likely to win more, however

He is in no way comparable (yet) to Senna, Schumacher, Prost, Lauda, Clark, Stewart or Fangio

Is he better than Alonso at his peak?

Max is undoubtedly one of the fastest F1 drivers ever. What he has still to prove is his race-craft. Until he has that opportunity then he is not in my top 5. Last year proved a total lack of race-craft, this year he has not yet needed it.

Freedman, you missed Lewis off that list.

Max is fast. Very fast. As MustangGT says, the lad has no race craft. It's still very much a case of watch out I'm coming through. He is of course severely hindered as his Dad is Jos and he had Horner as a boss.

What I did love was his overtake on CLC. It showed perfectly what he's capable of.

I get the impression some people annoyed about the c4 highlights are under the impression something more was on offer in the live broadcast. It was short and uninformed as well.
As for best driver, those guys in the past had it easy apart from the danger. A 1500cc F1 car in the 60s was definately slower than an f3 car today and anyone can look good in those.
All that slipping around on skinny tyres makes the punters think something profound is going on I guess.
Massa forgot to put his rose tinted goggles on as he's not from round here and not pre-programmed to worship the past so much
due to not having stacks of dusty sticker albums under his bed.
Next we will be told dixie dean is better than ronaldo lol.

“George Best was the greatest footballer of all time”… probably wouldn’t get a game in a league two team these days.

I have to be more careful sharing my view on Senna, heads would explode.

Different eras require different skills. Some modern F1 drivers wouldn't even step into a 1960s car. Likewise, some F1 aces of earlier eras would struggle with current cars.

This - I had a brief era, where i was the best driver in the world, it was for about 3 seconds where i saved a slide in my Toyota Supra in the wet on the A57. I dont think i'd make Massa's top 5 though.
