F1 on Channel 4
Discussion
Steve Jones really p*sses me off with his attempted jokes. He really thinks he’s something special but obviously DC and others think he’s okay.
Steve, Billy and Alex reporting from the F1 Centre were uninspiring. Don’t present themselves as world class presenters. All wearing the Poundland “Grey” range of clothing.
Next year will swap to Sky .

Probably want to sample the "crofty" before you commit to a contract, though, as if you're easily annoyed by idiots....
This exactly, I can't bear any of the build up now on sky. Tune in on the formation lap and switch off as the flag falls. The only one worth listening to is Karun.F1 coverage in the UK has become really bad and allowed to happen because viewing figures have risen. I’m guessing that is the case as I don’t actually know. I can’t understand how some are still there and haven’t been moved on and some of the newer team members are woeful. I haven’t watched much CH4 coverage this season at all but that’s because the season has been so tedious, the thought of watching highlights just doesn’t appeal.
I used to enjoy F1 coverage on CH4 but it became too obvious that the main protractors still had very close ties with one team and it became very biased and product placement of a certain sugary energy drink overwhelmed the quality of their product.
UK F1 coverage needs a shakeup and I’m considering F1 TV using my VPN for next year.

You can’t really compare CH4 with Sky, there must be a huge difference in their budgets.
Interestingly, I believe that CH4 has higher viewing figures than Sky. Presumably, because the mainstream viewing audience prefers to watch condensed highlights, rather than Sky’s all day, wall to wall, coverage. And, that seems to be reflected in CH4’s smaller, more relaxed, broadcast team and style.
You would expect Sky to be more professional, with higher levels of expertise. Some people on here don’t seem to like Crofty, but it’s clearly personal, I don’t have a problem, actually quite like his enthusiastic manner.

..."clearly personal"? Liking something is always personal isn't it?Interestingly, I believe that CH4 has higher viewing figures than Sky. That's what I do now. Shame really as I used to enjoy 30 mins of build up to get the anticipation juices flowing before a race, but Sky is intolerable.First there was Jonathan Leggard. Then James Allen...Crofty must go! ITV, BBC, C4, Sky.... Had the internet been a thing in the days of Murray Walker, there would no doubt be torrents of anti-Walker sentiment about how useless he was as well. Bottom line is that the internet will never be satisfied with whoever broadcasts and commentates F1.

Otherwise happy to have Billy and Jamie with sensible comments and insight to racing and track conditions. I watch F1 for the car racing and I like the presenters to know what they are talking about.
Also happy when Lee is hosting the programme. She has been around for a while and has good relationships with the drivers and team personnel.
But I suppose all of the above is probably the opposite of what Liberty want. They see it as entertainment rather than sport. So a Grand Prix has to have concerts, personalities shipped in who rarely know why they are there, reality television programmes about the racing personalities.

I half think the C4 efforts are designed just to drive you into paying for an alternative.
Some of the content & scheduling just has to be deliberately bad doesn't it??
They don't have much choice on the scheduling do they? Some of the content & scheduling just has to be deliberately bad doesn't it??
