I don't really care about the presenters but I do care about the coverage of the actual race, and speaking of Silverstone only (as it's my local circuit which I've driven several thousand miles on) I don't think that the world feed coverage from FOM is nearly as good as it was when our host broadcasters produced it.

I've never seen Sky's coverage to compare it with CH4 but I'm presuming it has the same feeds;
whether or not each broadcaster is able to make differing editorial decisions from those feeds, I've no idea, but Sunday's coverage from an editorial point of view was not great .

Frankly, I'm tired of the dumbing down of mainstream media. They do operate on the principle that the audience is too thick to appreciate the "worth" of what they are watching and constantly have to hype up everything with false jeopardy and false excitement. They are scared stiff that the viewers will get bored after ten seconds and start channel surfing.

In reality, they are not just channel surfing, they are turning off.

I find it insulting, to be honest.
Spot on with this Eric.

Well honestly unless you want to try and tune your telly to 1983 you may as well give up on it.

I was born in 1990, I'd agree that even in the last 20 years things have changed significantly. Now nothing will change for the better, Big Brother really was the doom bringer of TV.

So is there a future plan to drop free to air 'Terristerial' TV coverage in the future .. or could there perhaps be another intervention by C4 if they see it as profitable.

It it does get dropped - I can see this as the final nail in the Bernie F1 coffin, with a serious rating drop amoungst real F1 fans.
This year C4 bought out the remaining years of the BBC contract (2016-2018) to show coverage as it is now (half live / half highlights) but pretty much straight after that deal was done, Bernie then announced that Sky would have full UK broadcast rights from 2019.

I don't believe Sky have said how they plan to manage highlights for terrestrial viewers from 2019. It's possible that they could choose not to offer any, but if they do I would imagine it would be served via one of their own free to air channels, like Pick TV, or alternatively they could sell a 1 hour package to someone like ITV4 similar to how coverage of Moto GP / BSB, WRC, etc, are currently handled with BT.

I believe the only exception to the Sky deal from 2019 is that so long as there is a British GP, it has to be broadcast live on a Free To Air channel - again this would likely be on a Sky owned channel like Pick.

I have given up on a lot of TV. The internet is where I find good stuff (no laughing at the back) these days. In fact, if you particularly want to find stuff from 1983, you will find a lot of it on the internet.

So - we can enjoy it for another 2 years after this one.

Of course there are aspects of modern TV that are much better - definition, sound, extent etc. But the actual style of presentation is very much aimed pretty low in their assumption of audience intelligence or just interest.
I like the idea of an anchor. It's not new. Who remembers Dickie Davis, Frank Bough and Steve Rider? They should perform the role of coordinator and not take the lead. Without Lazenby on Sky, it'd be like herding cats. He strikes the right balance IMHO and there's no attempt by Sky to use him in any way to dumb down the show.

Is Steve Jones performing the same function on C4?

Holly Samos' interviewing style is rather minimalist. To Daniel Riccardo after the race "Good 2nd place". Wonder how long it took to come up with that incisive non-question frown

Yeah...although good to see Lee Mckenzie on the BBC at the Olympics!
