Good point, to highlight social issues is perhaps better way of putting it. Quite noble really rather than living a selfish life.
The world according to Lewis Hamilton ?He he could do more good by alienating less people. Just because he’s one of the best all time drivers, his opinion is just one mans opinion like everybody else’s.

Yes but he can highlight plastic pollution which is probably a good thing. I can’t as I’m a nobody. So if he highlights vs not highlight the issue I would say is a good thing overall.
It’s the way he does it that pi$$es people off.Shaming people will not get positive results and will ultimately turn people against him and his pet social issues.
There are many social injustices in the world, support for a heavy handed approach will not help.

I'm not sure a Petronas sponsored driver has much mileage in highlighting plastic pollution, but if a Mercedes driver can do it for standing on the shoulders of slaves what do I know.CoolHands said:
Or, he just thinks he should use his position to highlight inequality
What's the "Or" about? I said just that:glazbagun said:
His social media shaming of other drivers over political issues in a famously apolitical sport is both a function of his success giving him F1 capital to burn (peak Schumacher could have done the same had he wanted, JYS had kudos to burn), but also speaks to his desire to be a bigger global celebrity than just a famous racer. He's burning F1 capital, not for F1 safety, but for global issues/ fame depending on how cynical you are.
Like a lot of celebs he should probably stay away from The Twitters a lot more. That goes without saying - Ricky Gervais has frequently had a go at Hollywood airheads and celebs for giving us their opinions on climate science and politics etc.
But this was clearly an issue that really got to him in a big way (understandably).
Where he crossed a line what making it seem like he was having a go at colleagues rather than perhaps the industry more widely.
Easy to do with a Tweet. A lot of nobodies like us manage to get ourselves misunderstood in our posts. Imagine if we had millions of 'followers' ready to get the wrong end of the stick rather than just a few more nobodies.

Imagine actually openly saying "He should know his place, and not publicly express any opinions that might polarise".
Some people are actually ridiculous.
Anyone that doesn’t agree with you is ridiculous? Some people are actually ridiculous.
That’s how it starts.
People turn away from otherwise good causes because they are shamed into supporting it.
Celebrities can add their weight to their chosen causes of course, but if they go about it in the wrong way it ends up working against their cause.
That is the way of the world which you don’t appear to grasp ?
A worthy cause like “equality” has now become polarised instead everyone meeting in the middle and doing something about it.
I wonder what the reaction would be on here if Leclerc sent Hamilton's "shaming" tweet? I wonder if he would be praised for calling people out, for giving people some harsh truths, for speaking out on what he believes?
I wonder what would've happened if Hamilton was then one of the drivers who failed to show a truly united front on whatever Leclerc was speaking out about - would he be praised for being his own man and not getting involved in politics?
I wonder what the reaction would be if Hamilton was pictured breaking corona virus rules by going to a nightclub in Monaco?

It’s not so much what you do it’s more about saying one thing and doing another.I wonder what would've happened if Hamilton was then one of the drivers who failed to show a truly united front on whatever Leclerc was speaking out about - would he be praised for being his own man and not getting involved in politics?

Leclerc is not claiming the higher moral ground.
You can’t judge anyone by a single episode, we all do stuff but if you keep doing stuff you will eventually be judged by it.

Leclerc agreed to abide by the coronavirus rules and then broke them. Leclerc is not claiming the higher moral ground.

Leclerc thought himself above showing a united front.

I understand the drivers are all “united” about there being no place for racism in the modern world.
The “political gesture” of taking the knee is not the same thing which I can understand some don’t agree with.
