Can't win.

One minute there are no characters letfrom in F1.

Then LH gets slaughtered by some for not being his own man.

Just because he's 31 doesn't mean he can't have a bit of fun. Not everyone is a boring old fart

Didn't manage to keep hold of his dummy for long did he? He's now saying that the press have been disrespectful and he won't attend the driver press conferences as a result. Just who the F*ck does he think he is? He so needs to grow up a bit, or move on. He is 31 years old, 3 times WDC, he is a man, not a teenager, about time he acted like one. He's an amazing driver, but keeps making himself really easy to dislike. A proper spoilt brat I'm afraid. All F1 drivers are prima donna's, I get that, and many over the years have been a wee bit too precious, but LH moves it up a whole notch more.
He should take note that NR has stepped up this year, as if NR can do it, then why do Mercedes need LH and all the baggage that goes with him. Merc could put Grosjean / Sainz / Perez / Alonso / Vettel etc in that car and they'd all be winning championships. I hope he manages to keep it all together for the rest of the season, but I suspect he's already conceded this year's shot. What betting against a do or die move into turn one tomorrow?.

and yet, for the last few years he has turned up to the British GP after party to say thank you to the fans.

There was also that article that was posted on here that Hamilton can often be found at the back of the paddock signing autographs for fans through the fence.
And I have seen him myself hanging around a karting track for two hours more than he was meant to be there just to talk to the young racers and give them some motivation.

Not the actions of a petulant or insincere person.

He probably thinks hes 3 times world champion who has had a massive amount of bad luck this year, (despite the best efforts of his engineers and mechanics) and who is now getting criticised for not being a corporate PR droid that peole like you were complaining about not so long ago.

Question is who are you to sit behind your keyboard and criticise ?

I absolutely can't stand Hamilton. Not sure if its the weird accent, his stupid haircut/beard, his massive gold chain & other assorted crap bling, his apparent attitude or what. Difficult to say exactly what. This kind of press conference carry-on certainly doesn't help his 'image' either. If we're going to have drivers with 'personalities', why can't they be more like, say, Raikonnen?
I guess Hamilton's just not 'cool', & he can't stand it when people point this out.

Or maybe he doesn't care half as much about 'being cool as other people seem to care about him being so?

Raikkonen? That mardy arse bd who does the least press and public interaction that he can possibly get away with? Don't get me wrong, he's a character and I'm glad he's there, but a grid full of Raikkonens? sleep

That is a bit strange to say - the point is he is very cool to a large portion of society. It may well be you disagree with his lifestyle and that part of society, but culture says he is a lot cooler than most on here. Again, go back to when you were young. Did your parents generation say "wow, you guys are cool", or did they say "young people are crazy, disrespectful etc"? I'd guess a lot of people posting here would have been growing up with rock music. It certainly wasn't cool to your parents generation for the most part, yet to you it was cool. Who was right? Same with this generation - is rap cool?

This whole episode would have been even more funny if he'd have been driving for Ron. Can you imagine? rofl

Can't say I'm a fan of Hamilton but the obviously older folk on here thinking he does all these hip things to be down with the kids are somewhat misguided.

Rap? Really? It's not even called that anymore dude biglaugh

Apparently he walked out the official presser and then did a fan Q&A outside.

Clearly the mark of an immature, ungrateful person who is up himself, just like everyone in this thread says. Or not. smile

What a bellend.

Some interesting tweets on Buxtons timeline, these from Ted K:

"You might read about Lewis Hamilton storming out of a Merc press briefing just now. He didn't..."

"...He simply said that the reaction to thurs press conf had disappointed him and he wasn't going to answer questions."

"LH wished everyone a good rest of weekend and left. Totally his prerogative.. A classic bit of F1 off-track tension."

Buxton added:

"Print press, as always, have the chance to interview top 3 drivers after qualifying in FIA conference. Nobody asked Lewis any questions."

In response to:

"@LewisHamilton refusing to speak to media after 'disrespectful' coverage of his Snapchats from Thursday presser"

Buxton said "Actually have huge respect for this. Can't chew the guy out 1 day and expect him to open up the next."

"In the absence of Lewis Hamilton quotes I look forward to the British newspapers' coverage of Jenson and Jolyon's qualifying tomorrow "

"I still recall the manner in which some writers tore Ron and McLaren apart for spygate, then turned up expecting lunch at the next race."

In other words the media are continually going to push the "outrage" and "stormed out" rubbish and clearly have no shame. Then some will lap it up and post rubbish as per this thread.

As always, reality is slightly different.
