Yeah, how dare he have a life outside of F1. I mean, who does he think he is?
A contracted employee with obligations to his employer? His lack of presence at this event has been noted and criticised by many. Not only by those in the same industry, but by those who actually matter, the fans.

Was he supposed to be there under contract? Do you have info on this?
GLOL, I think the potential scenario whereby he wanted to go to F1 Live London but was specifically prevented from attending by his employers would raise far more questions! He goofed with this PR blunder, but I doubt there was any malice in it. However, we all have to sometimes do things we don't like.

I think he is doing the right thing. Hopefully he should arrive at Silverstone relaxed and refreshed. I am really looking forward to the weekend although can’t watch, sadly, as I am stuck on a cruise ship.

I asked if he was under contract to attend the London F1 live event. How do we know that?

Given the event was invented at quite short notice it is unlikely to have been in his contract.I asked if he was under contract to attend the London F1 live event. How do we know that?
In fact I doubt ANY non-race event is in his contract, it is probably X days per year of sponsorship or team related events, agreed X months in advance, or "per quarter" agreement so that all can plan diaries.

Yet the other 19 drivers managed to turn up, including 3 former world champions, as did the current world champion. He has about 10 times the pressure on him that any other driver has this weekend. Anyone who has been to Silverstone in the Hamilton era will understand what I mean. The place is ALL about Lewis and the expectation immense. It must be pretty draining having that kind of responsibility to deliver.
Having an issue with him not being at a plod around in London before it starts seems seriously out of order.
Well, this is a grab of the short video he posted yesterday entitled "This is holiday".
Meanwhile every other driver including Nico is at London being cheered and his name is being booed - even when Damon Hill tries to use a similar apologetic tack on his behalf that some are using on PH.
Yes, PR activities will be part of any F1 driver's contract. (Even Kimi.) Whether or not this particular event was specifically included in his should be of little consequence to his decision to attend. I'd actually be more impressed had he taken part voluntarily, but no, he left it to the rest of the grid to put on a good show.
Liberty thanked the rest of the teams with deliberately chosen words: "We invited teams and drivers to join us at F1 Live London and we had a fantastic response from all the teams and 19 of the drivers".
Evening Standard
It was only a handful of days ago that he summoned a straight face and berated another driver for setting a poor example to children. Seb was there today interacting with schoolkids. Only one driver chose to ignore those same young fans and chose to do so in the capital city of his home GP. Own goal, no matter what demons he may be battling by attending parties. It can't really be defended with any credibility. He's goofed and I suspect he now knows he's goofed and will need to go into max PR mode in the short term.

This thread is funny really. A load of old crocks who have nothing better to do but rush to the internet and post "See! he's a <insert insult here>" as soon as the bloke as much as farts.
Says more about them than it does him and whatever he's done or not done.
Yes, maybe he should have been there, but in all honesty the only thing he missed was going up on stage when they introduced all the drivers. Not exactly the end of the world is it.

I would certainly expect that sponsor appearances are suchlike are indeed agreed upon months ahead of time. The short break Lewis is currently enjoying, likewise.

What rubbish. Frankly it doesn't matter to most people what he does but please leave this sort of claptrap out of it.

I am sure if Lewis was leading the Championship he would have been there today.
