If he was white and spent his time partying with rock stars as apposed to being black and hanging out with rappers, those on here who find fault with his lifestyle would worship him like James Hunt.
Indeed.

This narcissism you mention I don't see...
I see Vettel, single minded (the RedBull period) popping a vien when Webber didn't stick to his Vettel's biatch role, swerving team orders... and of course winning from pole having driven off into the distance in the best car.
Then we have the foxtrot oscar Charlie moment.. can you imagine if Lewis had done that!!? Or wheel banging in Baku! All of that doesn't seem to matter. It was all about Seb and him believing everyone else is wrong.
Young Max, brilliant driver and a breath of fresh air but... he gets it wrong, a few 'ambitions' moves that didn't end well but nope... no grief for him either.
Lewis isn't perfect either, far from it. Yeah, he can be moody. He doesn't like to lose. Who does? He wears he heart on his sleeve. I like to see that. See the person...
We have Kimi who basically mumbles and says nothing but he's loved and is seen as a fantastic guy... again, if Lewis mumbled his way through interviews, basically said nothing... I'd imagine he'd be crucified.
I've got not problem with Seb, Max, Kimi... they are what they are... I'm not perfect. I'm sure some of you PHers are though. You must be wink
I just watch the racing
Good post. Agreed.

I have a sneaky feeling that the gap to Nico would have been much bigger this year, with tyres you can lean on a bit more. The reason we've seen such close contests between team mates in the last few years is that the tyres have defined the limit rather than the cars/drivers.
The crushing irony of discrediting the only driver Lewis had to beat for 2 of his 3 WDCs. biggrin

Have a look at the qualifying margins. It would give you a little bit of an idea, although racing in 2014 wasn't too bad as the Merc barely needed to lean on the tyres to destroy the field.

Seriously, the other day I watched a little clip of Nico and Lewis racing in Bahrain 2014. The onboards looked like in slow motion compared to these current cars...to think that Nico and Lewis were driving away from the rest of the field at over 2 seconds a lap there, it's just ridiculous. I won't begrudge Lewis those 2 WDCs though, as his talent certainly deserves more than 1 WDC he had to his name until he joined Merc.

The original point would have a little bit of merit if Nico had never raced with tyres that can be leant on. Obviously, you can't expect Lewis fans to follow another driver except when he races against Lewis in the same team, but if they were so inclined they could have a look at some of Nico's drives early in his F1 career. Race pace and single lap speed combined. I have a sneaky feeling too, and it's that he wouldn't have struggled as much with race pace as Bottas in the early races this year... and I suspect too that he would've been closer to Lewis on the points table than Bottas. I also wonder about some of the team orders Bottas had to obey this year. After all the shenanigans at the final race last year, I doubt Nico would be quite so compliant.

I think Nico had already demonstrated a willingness for overstepping the rules never mind the etiquette with respect to racing his team mate way before the shenanigans you refer to. I genuinely think those shenanigans were very half hearted as well, Lewis should have either got on with it backed them properly up (I'm glad he didn't, but it would make more sense) or left it alone (my pref).

That's not to run Nico down by the way. Nico was prepared to do absolutely whatever necessary last year after the previous years of ramping it up. Have to respect his speed and his single-mindedness even if your weren't keen on his methods.

Yes he can wear some 'interesting' gear.
If you've ever seen a major football team getting off the bus on match day you'll see similar.

I'm not sure 'interesting' is the word I'd use for that get-up!

Thank goodness grown men don't get wound up by such fashion faux pas.

it amuses me that whatever kind of outfit that is raises eyebrows whilst nobody bats an eyelid whilst hamilton (and 21 other drivers) spend every other weekend walking around in giant baby suits.

Why in God's name should grown men form strong opinions about other grown men based on how they dress? What a strange way to live one's life...
