I wonder how Bottas' car is better?
I wonder if Ferrari are dangling a 3 year+ contract for Bottas to replace Kimi? Though I did read that Mercedes have him on a 1+1 option.

I would like to see him stay at Merc as I think he's a really good fit for the team and a good contrast to Lewis.

His stock is high and fully deserved. I'm delighted that he is in a top car - it proves what Frank saw in him those years ago.

Indeed and obviously Toto deserves some credit too by deciding to manage him and get him into Williams.

A lot of people on here were very critical of him early in the season but he's just been quietly getting on with the job.

I agree. I'm a fan of his - I don't think he is the next Lewis/Vettel but he might sneak a WDC.

I agree he's ultimately not at their level but could easily be the next Kimi / Rosberg and be a WDC.

Will Lewis retire before reaching 40 years of age?
Thoughts?

Cant see him side stepping to any other motorsport and has not the character for presenting tv. Perhaps will move to 'brand ambassador' full time for some aftershave, sport clothing or mercedes consumer car full time.

I'd imagine there are a lot of people on this thread who simply can't believe Lewis gave 3rd back to Bottas today, and with Max putting huge pressure on that place from behind.

If people didn't believe he doesn't want no1 status and team orders, you have to believe it now.

I suspect that Mercedes or rather Bottas side of the garage will have been very impressed by that.

He's the only top rate driver that has shown not to want/expect a no.1 status I with his teammates in any of his contracts/teams/teammates.

More respect to Lewis Hamilton over any other driver.

It's simple isn't it: Hamilton wants to race to a win. Some of the others just want to win.

Why? It was a clear case of team orders that he agreed to. It would have been more surprising if he hadn't given it back...

Not one call from Lewis to delay it / avoid it / tell Bottas to close up / give it back later in the year.

Could Bottas have argued if the team had said he had let Max get too close?

And beyond all that, is the fact that Lewis genuinely doesn't seem to want No1 status. I expected team orders from Merc this year as I think Ferrari are a real threat and they can't give WDC points to Ferrari, which equals giving points to Seb as there clearly are team orders.

If I was Bottas, I'd be amazed that I was being given equal status to a 3 x WDC who has been with the team several years.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's me. You obviously think this is normal behavior from a multiple world champion but I really don't think it is.

It's what Lewis has done throughout his career (with very few exceptions and little umbrage that I can remember), so it's no great shock. It makes him a decent bloke, and makes today entirely unsurprising.
