It was obviously a slip of the tongue but there are too many people out there that take offence at the slightest error.

The bloke is still a bloody hero...
He is nothing of the sort. Just a posturing self-obsessed celebrity that drives cars fast - big deal.
His family was given a home in the UK & my how quickly he shows his appreciation by bad-mouthing & having been a champion for his peers is only too happy & smug ensuring he pays the minimum of UK tax.

Please tell me....why would he pay tax if he doesn’t live in the UK? Do you pay tax in Germany?

Not really.

Slum: a squalid and overcrowded urban street or district inhabited by very poor people.
Liverpool?
WTF!!! Why Liverpool????
Liverpool is not a slum!!! Like any City it has bad areas but the city is not a slum. It is actually a nice city. Look up Liverpool 1 and be educated.

Have any of you people lived in Stevenage?

I have, and have also lived in Watford, Luton, Hertford, Welwyn and other places round that area and believe me Stevenage is far from the worst place in terms of crime, facilities, traffic etc.

it has a bad rep from the media, what do you expect? cathedrals, lovely streets, it's a New town FFS, give over.

Fair enough he cocked up, but it doesnt help his image, which is split to say the least.

I think it was the term slum and the fact Liverpool was highlighted which was my issue, and yes there are other st holes. London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow etc etc all have there nice areas and there st holes.

Hypocrit. You can’t complain about people highlighting Liverpool as a sthole and then highlight other cities as stholes....

All Cities have there st holes hence I gave some examples and etc etc, so no I'm not being a hypocrit.
Again the poster who mentioned Liverpool said it was a slum. Which it isn't!!!!!

Never takes long for tax to come up doesn’t it... most people with his money would do the same.
Mansell, Coulthard, Button, Stewart... all moved to tax friendly places
Toto Wolff, Vettel, Kim, Rosberg... all live outside their home nations.
Having money gives people freedom to do what that want, go where they want. Live where they want. It’s that simple. Why some don’t get that is beyond me.

As did Paula Radcliffe, Geraint Thomas and many other sports figures.

And I don't blame them at all..

Did make me laugh how many people blasted Hamilton saying they didn’t want him to win SPOTY because he didn’t live in the UK or pay tax, while forgetting previous winners like Mo Farah did the same

Didn't his paternal grandfather come over from Grenada in the 1950s (then a British colony) and worked hard to build a half decent life here, like many immigrants from that part of the world in that era. The country had appealed for young working men to come over and help it recover from the war.

So not exactly "given a home in the UK"

It makes sense on many levels for F1 drivers to be there - advantageous for tax (obviously a fairly big reason!), they can life a relatively anonymous life and its convenient for many of the European circuits.

Jeeeeez, that Sun article is a reminder of their dim witted ‘journalism’. It’s a case study in media bias; “ruthless Hamilton dumps broody girlfriend❗️“ do people actually read the Sun? It’s more than embarrassing.

As for tax. It’s come up a hundred times before, on this thread. Most of the grid live in countries that are tax advantageous. Many historic F1 drivers did also. But Hamilton is singled out, it seems. Funny that.

Maybe they don’t all evade tax?

That’s what Hamilton was/is accused of, IIRC.

I'm surprised any intelligent person bought into Hamilton's "slum" nonsense that he's been spouting for years.

Anthony provided everything a young and ambitious lad could ever need for his chosen career.
Please tell me where he’s sprouted slum nonsense ...I can’t recall any time he’s used those words before.

I do recall him saying he lived in a council house on his dads sofa while he worked his butt off for him.

Be nice if you could back up your statement with evidence
He's been slagging off Stevenage for years and it started with "not a nice place".

Not sure why he's so critical of his upbringing. Maybe he'd like to project a background similar to some of his US rapper friends who grew up in genuine ghettos ?

Maybe we'll also hear from Vettel how rough it was for him, growing up with only one Steinway in his wooden shack
