I am genuinely perplexed as to why some people here can’t accept that he can be an F1 driver and also have a conscience about the environment. He has far more reach as one of the world’s most prominent sportsmen than he would if he jacked it all in to be a retired sportsmen who tweets.

And if it genuinely unsets you, stop reading his social media posts. Simple.

Honestly, anyone reading Lewis' statements and taking it as a personal attack on them is projecting. Yes, they are preachy, yes they are trying to send a message, but he doesn't (unless I'm missing something obvious, please enlighten me if so) explicitly call out people in particular or tell us to actually do something. It's more of a broad social commentary on the state of the world and global awareness and damage - which in my mind, are fair comments if he wants to make them, and are genuine reasons for (some) people to feel upset in this day and age.

You know the best thing about social media commentary? you don't have to read it.
You know one of the great things about F1? You don't have to absorb anything other than the races unless you want to.
+ 1. Some very thin skinned and easily upset people on PH.
Who is upset?

If anything, there are people on here who cannot see the full picture.

Call out people for projecting, then go on to project.

He does call out people to "Go vegan" so I guess you did miss that bit.

Fair enough, you've got me there on both counts. I just find it a little odd that there seem to be quite a lot of people who are actually getting angry about this kind of thing, when it is literally your own choice if you wish to consume it or not, and also your choice if you allow it to irritate you - we all know what Lewis is like and the kind of things he posts.

Yet it is used to argue a baby is more destructive for the environment in comparison with the others.
because a baby...ergo a human uses different things through their lifetime and produces those emissions...so they are already counted for. by applying those rules you are double counting emissions, which is why its not done.

either way im correct and my figures are correct...you can count those factors in if it makes you feel better,
So the figure for the baby is actually calculated on a lifetime approximation of co2 emissions. Whereas the figure for the flight is meant to be one individual flight.

It would seem easy to make sensational comparisons between the two. Such an in balanced way of comparison.
NO. the figure for a child is based on the average c02 impact of a human over a lifetime, divided by the average life expectancy to give you a c02 emission for a single year of their lifetime

on average, humans take 1 flight a year for a holiday so its a perfectly reasonable comparison to make.

Because he's directly involved in much more pollution, open cast mining etc andallsorts of other planet destroying activities than all of us minions.

All those precious metals don't grow on trees, I assume inconel extraction and mining has a net carbon benefit?

If he said I've had an epiphany and I can no longer live with myself doing the work I do and the lifestyle I lead and I'm retiring to become a farmer at the end of the season then I would have some respect for him.

As it is he's desperately trying to assuage his own guilt, while indulging in tokenism, he's sold his private jet and opened a vegan restaurant don't you know.

I suspect if he quit the sport and lived in a hut stark bk naked it still wouldn't be enough and be classed as tokenism by yourself and others on here

He could just be trying to screw a better renewal deal on his Mercedes contract.
Or maybe is preparing a Formula E deal or something even bigger Mercedes want him to be involved with.

It's pretty amusing that Lewis Hamilton is apparently ok to take to social media, rage against the entire world and prescribe his way of living to everyone, but it's not ok for a few randoms on a car forum to reciprocate their opinions without getting mocked laugh

Giving an opinion is one thing but getting riled and ‘repulsed’ is something else. Have a word wink

talk about pot kettle black....the amount of people on here that mock lewis for his lifestyle choices, whether it be his hair, tax affairs, housing situation or food consumption, who are the same people that then whine when he tries to tell people that veganism is a good thing is amazing.

hypocrisy of the highest order .
