My nerves on race day were never good, but as soon as I got in the car and did the belts up they disappeared.

That Lewis and Frank Williams video appeared on the tweet machine yesterday again. Lewis better cop himself on a bit, I'm beginning to like him.

Yes he does dress a bit odd when on show and away from F1, doing the "celeb" thing and yes he does look a bit uncomfortable doing so, however he cannot be faulted when doing F1 specials or things involving F1 fans especially when kids are involved, he is great with kids.

The race itself never really bothered me. Qualifying did. I found that more intense than the race itself in so much as a couple of times in really hot conditions I fell asleep on the grid and was woken up by a Marshall asking me if I wanted to take part.

Disappointing to see he was overlooked for a knighthood again this year despite winning another championship.

All our other outstanding F1 drivers have been honoured even though non are a successful as Lewis.

Not on really.

He'll get one after he retires.

Although, it's been done recently in other sports, I don't think knighthoods should be given while people are still competing in their sports. In my opinion, it should only be done after they have retired.

Stirling Moss was 70 when he got his and Jackie Stewart 62. Clark, Hunt and Graham Hill never got one, Mansell & Damon Hill also haven't got one. So a bit of time yet before it's a conspiracy.

Didn't Bradley Wiggins get his knighthood whilst he was still competing?

But yes, can't imagine his achievement will go without recognition at some stage in the future.

Plenty of others deserving of recognition in the sport that didn't get it; John Surtees and Ron Dennis spring to mind; the latter for achievements beyond F1 as well.

I think he will get one eventually. For some reason other sports stars get them for just doing their job but with motor racing they seem to have to do something extra on top or be well connected.

he may not want it, I'd have thought the palace being keen to be relevant especially with the yoof would like the idea, I think the process is they find out if you're receptive first and could be Lewis doesn't feel its time.

Yep was discussing this with the wife earlier, hopefully he will get one at somepoint.

At least Sir Jackie Stewart can rest easy for another year!

I have no doubt that he will get all the gongs he deserves when he finally hangs up his boots. It would be outrageous if he didn’t.

(This all assumes that he hasn’t already been offered and has refused or asked for it to be deferred for some reason).

He already has an MBE and most other F1 drivers including world champions have not been honoured more highly. Those that have are listed already.

It's a team sport and as such the public faces of those teams seem to get less recognition, perhaps deservedly.
Many very good footballers or rugby players don't seem to get the gongs they deserve until later in life.

Maybe cricketers are less dependent on equipment?
