i mean all those German Jews moaning about Hitler statues back in the day ...pffft, i mean he did build motorways & did remind Germans of their terrible history
...oh hang on
The Germans didn't get the option as they lost the war and saw their country and its infrastructure destroyed, those who survived didn't want his or the Nazi images on public display either, be they Jewish or any other group living there....oh hang on
You have to be a bit dense to use your comment in reference to the statues we are discussing., which were usually erected after a long period post death, often related to public works funding legacies.

They also didn't protest by tearing up the autobahns or demanding VW and Mercedes were closed down.
The British army went into the major industrial companies such as the car industry and ran them to get them back up and running again. It's where a lot of their efficient systems came from.angrymoby said:
you have to be a bit dense to not realise what those statues are there for ...they're there to be venerated & literally looked up to.
if you want them to be a reminder of our past & legacy, put them in a place that is used as a reminder of past & legacy- i suggest a museum.
if you can't accept that those statues might be offensive to descendants of those who were oppressed, then you're either ignorant, deliberately insensitive, or ...well, we all know what the 'or' is
Just say it, you'd be wrong about that too.if you want them to be a reminder of our past & legacy, put them in a place that is used as a reminder of past & legacy- i suggest a museum.

No one has the right to not be offended, it's the cornerstone of a free society that you can be subjected to opinions or in this case objects you may personally find offensive.
A bunch of rioting cretins tearing apart what offends them is a terrifying way for society to move towards becoming acceptable behaviour.
Debate and come to a consensus weighing up all the arguments is the only viable way to move society forward. Thats becoming rarer in these times of instant gratification and microsecond attention spans.

Not at all, the british and French were actually very heavily involved in dismantling the german industry until 1950. Under pressure from the USA, they stopped. From then on, Germany became strong partly due to loans and huge employment of Turkish workforce. Nothing to do with GB.
Without the British Army VW wouldn't have survived.https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&...
Can see this year being 2016 again for Hamilton. He seems less happy with the car than Bottas and distracted outside of the car with all his crusading stuff.
Luckily for Bottas, Ferrari have this year self destructed and I think Honda/Red Bull are not strong enough to beat Mercedes.
Think a sneaky small bet on Bottas v3.142 might be in order.

The 2009 Mclaren started the year as a dog, but they managed to drastically improve it, and Lewis was able to win with it twice.
Truly incredible to have won every year since 2007.
Every year he has driven in F1, should really have another two championships on pace too.Truly incredible to have won every year since 2007.

I wasn't suggesting you were a racist.
I was, in fact, instead suggesting that you haven't got the first clue how a young person from an ethnic minority feels.
Hope that clears things up for you.
Lumping all into one generic group regarding their feelings is dumb.I was, in fact, instead suggesting that you haven't got the first clue how a young person from an ethnic minority feels.
Hope that clears things up for you.
None of us know how someone else really feels.
The whole BLM band wagon has the potential to reverse years of progress for integration of various cultures and ethnic backgrounds if handled badly, which i think it is right now, especially in a society like the UK which is doing far better than most in this respect.

I'm sad for the amount of hate and negativity that some people seem to have, and the fact that they constantly search for the bad in everything.
I feel like internet forums tend to have a disproportionately high number of these people - or that they give them a mouthpiece they wouldn't otherwise have.
This thread could have been about one of the greatest sportsmen in a generation. Instead, a bunch of people without the first idea what it's like to walk a mile in his shoes, have turned it into a personal vendetta against the man.
It's sad. I don't want to be dragged down to your level. So I'm going to leave you to it.
This kind of post highlights just how out of touch you are and how you don't understand the problems that could arise by using divisive language and symbolism, even if in a good cause.I feel like internet forums tend to have a disproportionately high number of these people - or that they give them a mouthpiece they wouldn't otherwise have.

People who have a difference of opinion to you on how best to move things forward are not the enemy, if you don't learn that you will go nowhere but backwards.

Black panters and BLM have highlighted something which doesn't go away... Racism. They are movement which one way or another create changes in society for better in most cases. Sadly people will pick on the negative side of it, generally those people have their own political agenda to try to dismiss such movements.
Movements like the Nation of Islam, which Ali supported for a while, preached racial segregation in the USA. This was Ali's opinion on racial integration in 1971. https://youtu.be/Y7wJG5JkQ4AIt's not uncommon for great sports stars to get caught up in the wrong crowd whilst trying to do the right thing. They usually realise eventually and in Ali's case went on to great things.

Lewis is the only driver wearing a different Tee-shirt.
It's a big mistake he is making associating himself with BLM when the message should be to simply end racism.
Very much this. Disagreeing with how Hamilton goes about his business or, more to the point, having no issue with him but not wishing to do what he does, does not make you unsympathetic to the cause or a racist. It's a big mistake he is making associating himself with BLM when the message should be to simply end racism.
