It managed 3 corners apparently this morning.
Way to go!
Indeed, bad failure. Was so terminal the engine seized and locked the wheels (on the move) - could have been very nasty. They couldn't even get it to engage neutral to be pushed off the circuit.Way to go!
Fernando didn't look happy - went back to his hotel immediately. Not confirmed yet if he will show up for FP2. I can see this being his last race - get the Indy drive done then tell McLaren to stick it.
Fernando has gone to play tennis. Really, he has.

I still can't see Fernando walking before the end of the season.
At the moment he is widely viewed as a talent struggling in a shoebox with wheels - it is doing McLaren and Honda's reputation spades and spades of harm. But I don't think it is Alonso's - every one is just saying he deserves better.
If he decides to walk it will look like a flounce though. An understandable one, but a flounce never the less. So unless he is dropping straight in to a more competitive race seat - I think he is better off toughing it out

The guy has been earning circa $50m a year for more than a decade, he can have, i imagine pretty much any drive in another series, theres a whole world out there, if a decent seat doesnt appear in f1 he would be mad not to just walk away, which i believe he will.At the moment he is widely viewed as a talent struggling in a shoebox with wheels - it is doing McLaren and Honda's reputation spades and spades of harm. I can't help feeling he needs to do very well at Indy otherwise doubts will start to creep in about his ability.
He's been this revered bloke bumbling along at the back for 3 seasons so hasn't been at the sharp end duking it out with the leaders. He could do it in spades but its been a while. I'm sure he belives he's the same person and the way he is talked about others seem to but he hasn't had the opportunity to show it for quite a while.
A poor performance in a new genre could dent his reputation and make managers doubt him enough to give a drive to a younger gun on the way up.
I hope he does well.

Don't forget he has been putting in some stellar performances in until the McLaren Honda breaks. He's been this revered bloke bumbling along at the back for 3 seasons so hasn't been at the sharp end duking it out with the leaders. What is this "direction" he's talking of? They've gone from blowing up engines every race in 2015 to blowing up engines before they even start in 2017. Is Donald Trump running the Honda garage?
I'll eat my words if Honda pull out a 50HP advantage in the closing season, but I'd sooner bet on them finishing behind Sauber at this rate.
Oh for the days when all McLaren had to worry about was the lack of a title sponsor.

Don't think it would be seen as a flounce when he has put so many years into this dead duck.At the moment he is widely viewed as a talent struggling in a shoebox with wheels - it is doing McLaren and Honda's reputation spades and spades of harm.
