There's no doubt that pay drivers, it could be said, take the space of someone who is potentially more talented - and in basic terms; it's is a shame that it's like that. The amount of pay drivers who've come and gone... I remember touring the Marussia F1 HQ and asking about their new signing; Charles Pic - the girl showing me around literally said; 'it's the money he brings'. There was no shame or embarrassment in her voice. It's a way of life in F1. Is it fair? I suppose not.

Indeed and my only real point a while ago now was that Stroll jnr seems to mark the point where it's gone too far even by F1 standards. 80 million his Dad has invested in him to get to this point... like I say anything less than a F1 WDC at some point and he's let his old boy down significantly. What is unfortunate is that Stroll jnr will be compared to Max V and Max V will destroy him in every area and the main one being Max V has a much better image despite still being pretty lucky into what he was born into and his chances in life. Stroll will always be the kid whose Dad spent 80 million on to get the F1...

80 mil is only 3% of his father's net worth so I doubt he'll be wringing his hands over it, and given his domination of F3 last year, particularly the last two-thirds of the season, I'd say he's earned his place on the grid. What is unfortunate is that Stroll jnr will be compared to Max V and Max V will destroy him in every area and the main one being Max V has a much better image despite still being pretty lucky into what he was born into and his chances in life. To say anyone MUST win a WDC to validate themselves is silly - we all know that (possibly) the best driver on the grid hasn't won one in 10 years and a driver that wasn't even as quick as his team mate has won one.

But yes if you insist Stroll is a genius wunderkind.....

Lol and this is round in a circle again where you realize you are in conversation with people who have no actual real idea. His Dad owned the team and he and his teammate walked the championship in a manner that made Merc look like they had a hard time. F3 team with a huge budget and ex Ferrari F1 technical staff and access to wind tunnel when no one else was...

Lets at least let him start his first race before making judgement. But yes if you insist Stroll is a genius wunderkind.....
I think everyone in here is really looking forward to next weekend and actually, when you think about it, the fact that we have Stroll to watch is just another interesting element to modern F1

Exactly. Liberty are making all the right noises and the cars are fantastic to watch. Let's see what the racing brings.I seem to remember the last person to come into F1 "too young" hasn't done too badly. And there are many excellent drivers who entered F1 as pay drivers - Lauda, Schumacher and Alonso to name three.

Works both ways.
Hopefully it'll be less vicious.
If Ferrari are close as testing implies they might be, there may be needle with Vettel.
But I think a lot of the visciousness of last year came from the two protagonists (brave brit v nasty old german) being in the same car, allowing for conspiracy theories and accusations of favouritism.
Hopefully that'll be alleviated this year

I dread to think how the race threads will turn out post race. They were bad last year but I have a feeling they will be worse this season.
Tom - will you just please give Stroll a few races to prove himself (or otherwise) before you write him off?
Read my posts, I've not wrote him off, he will be top 10 maybe a top 5 driver a few times. He will be way ahead of Alonso a 2 times WDC some consider one of the most naturally gifted drivers ever.Tom - will you just please give Stroll a few races to prove himself (or otherwise) before you write him off?
If anything I'm sort of writing off F1 as a pinnacle of drivers in Motorsport... I think this is what is annoying people. The rot started along ago though.
I watch it for the fact it is the pinnacle of engineering in Motorsport., hence how an 18 year old who is there because he paid to be there can get in one and perform fresh from F3. I'm backing Stroll this season as it will say a lot more to me about F1 than about him.
I'm not sure why its is hard for people to understand? Saying Stroll's Dad paid 80 million to get him to F1 isn't slagging him off, its factual.

I do hope so, but if and its a big if, as i think Bottas will play the wing-man happy to be 2nd role, but if Bottas is quicker than Lewis a few times or Lewis has car trouble, how long till the usual folks start suggesting its because Toto is his manager? If Ferrari are close as testing implies they might be, there may be needle with Vettel.

Well stop being dense and getting me to repeat the same stuff!! I have for the record said Stroll will do very well in the Williams! I think Williams will have a great season just short of RBR as 4th best team.
So to recap I think Stroll will be good.
Qualy for the race will be IMO.
Lewis
Bottas
Vettel
Massa
Kimi
Dan
Max
Stroll
Can't wait.

TM10 seems oblivious to the fact he is boring the hell out everyone. Go away.
Did you really expect to come onto a thread about the 2nd test 2017 which is long gone and find anything massively new or informative to read??There is a new thread about the actual race... i suggest you pop along to that one which I have already.
I shall not post again in this thread.
