I read that Vettel said it made him "feel dizzy" looking through it, so it sounds as if some work is required on the optics. We don't want it to impact their judgement when following other cars and resulting in collisionssmile

Aesthetically, I think I'll looks OK and will maybe even look better once it's an integral part of the car design and not an after thought. Certainly better than the other options currently on offer.

Both the aero screen and the shield look better than the halo, and both presumably provide at least the same level of protection. Is there any proper info as to why the halo is best and being chosen by the FIA? Or is it just that its the most developed of the proposed devices and time is short?

Hi Lewis, do you want to add 25kg to the top of your car, decrease your visibility and be seen as a bit of a wuss to some to decrease your chance of being hit by debris by an unproven amount?

No? are you sure?

9 out of 10 teams don't want it yet it gets implemented.

It still has to be ratified by a vote, unlikely to be turned down though based on previous history.

I am going to open a specialist clinic for cross eyed racing driver treatment.

Makes the cars look like crap and seems totally unnecessary. Good job FIA!

Apparently it was a unanimous decision by the teams even though they all preferred the screen..........so how did we end up with the flip flop? Another friggin working group set up to decide on the engine, how many working groups do we need, we're just going round in circles, what happened with this fan survey Alex wurz headed a year or two ago, the fans spoke so where are we at with that..............nowhere that's where, teams never seem to agree on anything, the FIA seem to be disconnected and do what they want then somebody has an idea to set up another working group to ask the fans what they want and round and round it goes

I'm afraid this is yet another example in F1 of where there is completely muddled thinking about (a) what this is designed to achieve and (b) pressure to implement anything regardless of whether it meets the design criteria. Gradually over many years from having been a complete enthusiast for F1 I have been gradually worn down to feeling apathetic about the whole business. A sad state of affairs. I console myself that it is still possible to go and see a complete day of clubmans racing at places Like Castle Combe for about £15 a day - with far more excitement than going to watch a GP, and without any of the exorbitant fees it now costs to watch a GP. And at places like CC you can still go to the Paddock for a couple of quid and actually talk to the drivers and mechanics at no cost. I know where I prefer to spend my money and time - and it still keeps my enthusiasm for motorsport alive

I'm not normally one to be dramatic... but fk me, this is a nail in the coffin of F1. What the hell are they thinking. This is the worst of all worlds, either have open racing or insist on fully covered cockpits.

Is it for F1 only? or other open wheel series?

At least one of the accidents regularly quoted in the rationale behind introducing 'something' was in a lower formula.

if so, how far down the tree do you go? Fitting such a device to, say, a FFord car would probably look even more bonkers and possibly be cost prohibitive - as in the extra cost making racing even less affordable than already for many.

This is all true. If it wasn't so tragic it would be funny.

I think I read recently that they are concerned that the new cars have made overtaking more difficult so they have set up a working group to come up with ideas to improve matters. I wonder if they'll decide to reduce the downforce by 25% and fit narrower tyres that degrade more quickly...?

It's not totally impossible that a halo device might in some cases actually deflect debris into the drivers head which would have otherwise missed or just barely clipped them..............like if it hits the underside of one of the bars and is fired down and in the cockpit...

Not only this.....but consider a small piece of debris striking the underside of the Halo device and instead of connecting with the drivers helmet (built and designed at massive cost over years of development to protect against impacts) and deflects into the drivers chest. Do drivers then need to wear bulletproof type vests now aswell?

I know it could be a rare occurrence but so is anything big enough impacting the drivers head area where the Halo would be any use whatsoever! Recent deaths have been in different Formula.

As it's downforce that got us into this mess, it should be reduced by 100%.

Only one team was in favour of the halo but the fia vetoed it under safety grounds hence it was unanimous, what a crock of st!
