Good job Scott Dixon! Alonso has 1 week experience in the car, never raced an oval, and he's 5th on the grid. Incredible. But it also shows these guys are no pushovers they know what they're doing. Looking forward to the race!
Ovals are a black art. There are some real specialists over there.

Would be interesting to see Alonso do an Indycar race on the streets or a conventional track.

I'd like to see him do a whole season, there's more to life than just F1!

Pah.
If Alonso really wanted to enjoy himself, he'd get in a Le Mans prototype, rallycross car and BTCC. Until he's done the full set, he's no Mansell =)

This has got me thinking...

ROC is a great idea, but ultimately is a bit like indoor karting.

I'd love to see a unification battle of F1, indy, Bathurst and tuiuring cars. It'd be epic.

What are the chances of Alonso enjoying this so much he turns his back on F1 for a whole season of Indy? I would guess if he can do well at Indy he could be competitive for the championship.

To take this a step further he could come back to F1 in 2019 when there is a competitive seat available.

Presumably Bordais' seat is free and his team are Honda powered...

It only seems to affect some people. I have been travelling for 21 years and have spent most of my time stateside since 2002, but I sound EXACTLY the same as I always did. I do say 'cellphone' and 'what's up' now though!

Takes me about a week and I then have a mid-Atlantic accent. Apparently I switch when talking on the phone as well to US colleagues. But then in my working day I spend more time talking to Americans than Brits.

Problem is that the seats in "competitive" cars in F1 become free for the 2018 season.

However he could do Indycar or WEC in 2019.

What competitive team in F1 will want him? He obviously has skills, but it seems the team player is perhaps lacking. Plus he is a bit older. When you have Max, Lewis and Sebastian then it would be difficult for him to get a place in the top 3 as generally having 2 of the best drivers in one team is not a good idea.

In a competitive car I'd be putting bets on Alonso winning first time out on a road course.

I'm a southern softy, but years ago I worked with a guy from up north and over time my traditional greeting changed from "Hello", to "Ey up". I then moved to California and over time my greeting became "Ey up Dude". Now that is weird. I've been back nearly 20 years now and am thankfully back to "Hello".

I moved from Bristol to North Lincolnshire nearly a year and a half ago and still sometimes find myself saying "Ow bist" instead of Ey up." And when I visit friends down south, I get it the round way wrong there as well.

I have to confess myself incredibly impress by Alonso and how quickly he has adapted.
