Really gutted for Alonso. I found a live stream on youTube and watched from around lap 150. He looked more or less in a spot where he could've had a go but it was not to be. I hope he goes back next year.
I found a live stream and had it on for about an hour and a half. Only saw about five minutes of it, couldn't stay awake. How can anybody call this a race? They only turn left and need banking to help them do that.

No wonder Indy drivers are out of their depth when they try to do F1.

If you're ever in Daytona you can get a ride in a Nascar car. Try it and then tell me you think ovals are boring!

I thought just the opposite, I found the whole race riveting and now have an even larger respect for the drivers who took part.

Agreed. It had a layer of strategy to it that F1 doesn't have.

I think a lot of motorsport fans, especially F1 fans, find it much easier to dismiss things than to make an effort to get into something.

In fairness I think that's Bernie's marketing genius

Another idea would be to have fewer F1 races. I think it's generally accepted that there are too many now.
I thought Liberty wanted to increase it to 25

25 might be possible if they get the sequencing right and essentially have 2 pit crews... You could group the European races better and have back to backs at places like Barcelona<>Jerez (yes, bring back Portugal) and French/German/Italian/Belgian as a group?

Might need to lose the summer break.

I don't think you really can lose the summer break.

Its for the truckies, mechanics and staff as much as anyone. They already make mega sacrifices to work in the industry

Sadly that will only happen if Honda fail ( again ) to provide a competitive engine for the F1 team, unless the FIA arrange the calendar so there's a 3 week gap between GPs over the 500 period
So, a dead cert then?

Alonso will miss more than just Monaco if they increase it to 25 races.

Alonso said:
"I have to see what they plan to do," he said. "I read that they want to make a championship of 25 races.

"When I started in F1 there were 16, now there are 20. If they tell me there are 25 I will retire,"

Unlike F1, the Indy 500 publishes the prize money allocation...

http://www.imscdn.com/indycar_media/documents/2017...

Even last place got $200K

And JP Montoya got less than a lot of the people behind him, including Fred.

IIRC prize money isn't just based on finishing position - it is also awarded for grid position, number of laps leading the race etc.

He's going to have to pay some excess baggage charge on that.

Well, nobody can accuse Fred of doing it for the money.
