I've never got over the fact he didn't know what a spark plug is

He's alright but the bumbling awkward arse act is wearing thin over the years.

It wasn't that he didn't know what a spark plug was, It was when he said these engines didn't use spark plugs, think he got confused with turbulent jet ignition and diesels, as soon as he said it he knew he'd got it muddled

Ted doesn't know his arse from his elbow technically, but I find him entertaining enough and he occasionally gets some good interviews. Just don't take his comments on anything to do with the cars seriously, because he hasn't a clue.laugh

Sometimes He's brilliant, with his off-beat style of interviewing he can get a few surprises out of some party line stalwarts.
Other times I think he's reading a script that has been snuck in to his notebook by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.

Unfortunately for me I find him more irritating than listening to someone run their fingernails down a blackboard

In the job he's in that's still unforgivable

Just a case of his mouth going off before engaging his brain, he realised the error as soon as his brain caught up, it made me stop and wonder for a split second when he said it I must admit but I came round quicker than he did

That depends what his job is. If its to entertain and fill in the gaps in the pit lane and get the occasional tit bit interview, he is meeting his job description.

Just don't look for anything technical from him.

As a Sky customer I am now avoiding the pre-race and post-race programming due to Ted Kravitz. It seems he's a frustrated wannabe stand-up comedian, and fails miserably at each attempt. It's a shame, as the rest of the Sky line-up is good. Ted just isn't funny. He'd be better keeping it straight, or move onto reporting for the local Gazette.

Anyone else finding this lately ?
He's always been like that AFAIR even back in the bbc days.

I like him.

He asks the drivers interesting questions and does the "Hugh Grant thing" pretty well. Even when I didn't have SkyF1, I used to watch his notebooks on the website.

If Ch4 could lose Eddie and get him on board, and go back to being all races live (never say never under Liberty) Id be fine with the coverage.

I dislike Paul di Resta far more than anyone else on Sky.

Ted's alright.

It's just the overweight middle aged bloke with his pink shirt tucked in to his too high beige trousers, talking to the other overweight middle aged ex racer with his white shirt tucked into his too high beige trousers, with the other overweight middle aged ex racer with his white shirt tucked into his too high beige trousers stood between them.

Jaysus the sky coverage is dull. Ted offers a slight relief to the tedium.

'Crofty' needs a bullet. Brundle's commentary is the best of all the channels, but his whiney, cynical, jaded, 'better in my day' pieces to camera before the races that really drag that down.

If PH did commentary, it would be sky F1 wink

Thanks for reminding me of this, brilliant rofl

As for Ted... really like him, only thing I'd change on Sky is Crofty. He's alright in Free Practise, really like Ant Davidson when he's there, too. During the races I can't stand him though, for the reasons others have already said.

Crofty; As good as any other lead commentator

Brundle; Getting snarkier by the week and beginning to sound like a bitter, twisted old bloke who never made it in the field he's paid to commentate on.

Hill; Obviously uncomfortable on camera but such a nice and engaging guy he's an asset to any team.

Herbert; Obviously comfortable on camera but such a natural it's easy to play the fool.

Paul di Resta; Has the ability to send a speed freak to sleeeeeepppppppzzzzzzzz huh what? who? er, did I miss something? Err what was I saying?

Anthony Davidson; Brilliant.

Pat Symonds; Brilliant.

Ted Kravitz; Kill me, kill me now.

People I'd like to see back, Nathalie Pinkham (stop squeezing out sprogs lass!), Karen Chandhok and Bruno Senna.

I even think Lazonby is pretty good these days even if I was a pretty harsh critic in his first couple of years.

How can a man so close to the F1 circus and be so clueless?

Generally don't enjoy the sky commentary, it's just the price I have to pay for the races.

Three of the most boring people ever to appear on F1 coverage. Little insight at all. The two guys gave the most annoying voices too. Ted's OK. He's learnt a lot over his time on the grid, but bringing Pat in is what they needed. Although with his new role with Ross Brawn, I'm not sure how long they'll keep him.

Not getting the dislike for Di Resta - his strength is the fact that he's raced an F1 car this century and can give insights the others can't.

I cannot put my finger on exactly why but Di Resta annoys the daylights out of me.

Ant Davidson is absolutely brilliant and easily the strongest member of the Sky F1 team. Knowledgable of course but also gets it across extremely well. He comes across as a really nice person too. Probably why he was never able to make it into a top drive in F1 unfortunately!

I like Kravitz. He's a bit of an idiot, but then again, so are most of us. He makes a myriad of mistakes, but for some reason it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Brundle is the one who's starting to grate, he seems to be turning into a properly grumpy old man and whilst he's always been able to puncture the nonsense surrounding the sport, he's slipped beyond the sarky but correct commentator position into the miserable twonk position.

Is Ted a dork? I honestly don't think so, he is man doing his master's bidding. I think that is the real problem with Crofty and Brundle also.

They have dumbed-down the whole show, SKY have almost lost the plot. The Ted's notebook is just the worst element, it is just plain awful. Lee McKenzie can do a quick sum up of a race in about 5 paragraphs. Walking down the back of the pits is just irrelevant.

At the end of winter testing Ted did a piece called development corner. Simply pulling up Sutton images and explaining new aero elements and explaining what they aimed to achieve. I thought he was at his best at this.

F1 is 90% car 10% driver, but all non-race TV coverage tends to be 90% drivers and 10% team principals.

C4 coverage follows this principle, but don't try to dumb it down so that it appeals to a football supporter who happens to be watching F1.

I think the Sky coverage is the best we've ever had to be honest.

Brundle being outspoken is nothing new, he's made some quiet strong remarks about F1 failing in terms of the "show" before. I can't think of any comments made this year that make him "a grumpy old man".

Hill was very uncomfortable in front of the camera to begin with, but he's much more at ease now and I find hi comments interesting.

Symonds is a good addition, I've listened to podcasts with him before, strikes me as a person you could chat with over a pint and come away with some great stories.

Davidson, on his ipad thing is always good to listen to.

Herbert sometimes speaks before he's engaged his brain, which actually gets entertaining, he's already been reminded of his Alonso comments this weekend hehe I suppose you could call him the village idiot, but he's got an awful long way to go to match Eddie Jordan on that score.

Crofty - I don't get the criticism, he's lead commentator, he's meant to shout. Walker shouted a lot, made mistakes and talked utter rubbish at times but he still gets nothing but praise ? I don't see the difference (other than grumpier viewers nowadays...)

The best thing that Sky to do change the team every so often - not all of them are at every race, I think it helps to keep things fresh.
