Is it me or do there new larger numbers and first 3 letter look stupid on the cars?

Do we really need them ? The sky pundits are all saying it's a good idea, but it looks rubbish especially the Ferraris on the front nose.

Just do what a lot of racing series do.

Standard design of number panel and they have to be a certain size and positioned in a certain area(s) on the car.

Worked for decades before.

In the fifties

In the Sixties

In the Seventies (look familiar?)

The Eighties

The Nineties

All stupid - nothing iconic there

I quite like it - its only in the last ten years or so that the numbers have become less conspicuous

The three letters are helpful but they should be in the same location on every car. The position seems to vary between teams. The numbers are still hard to read. Just make them black on a white roundel FFS!

Yep - not sure where on the car to look for them. Would make far more sense for them to be on the nose and rear wing endplates on every car.
Although they probably can't suddenly introduce that as some teams will have sold that as prime sponsorship space.

You don't think it possible that someone misunderstood when Carey asked for bigger numbers on the grid, do you?

Is the fan entertainment as bad as is painted?

A car worthy of a nice big number.

I liked it - particularly noticed the difference when differentiating Hamilton/Bottas as the camera somewhat jumped between them. Good move (although was expecting more when they announced "big changes")

Small steps.

I like it.

Race cars should have big numbers on.

It's a great improvement when you are at a foreign race, commentary is in a foreign language, the cars go by quickly and e.g. the Red Bull cars are very difficult to distinguish. I go to a foreign race every year and when you are in the grandstands you don't have the same detail and information that the sofa viewers get. Now they need to make the positions and style consistent. I wonder why Bernie never did anything useful for spectators?

Agreed. I also think it's probably more for the fans at the track than tv viewers, too.

I can imagine that being useful on an oval

The 1 -2 - 3 lights on cars at Le Mans is really useful trackside, as are the illuminated numbers.

Over a 90-115 minute race on a road course, less so.
