I agree to some extent.

Thoroughbred F1 would be better if there was a bit of variety in the cars, they are all DFV pretty much, and that is fine, but as with any single seater, after a few laps they all make the same droning sound, and you sort of drift off. And they are rev limited.

There have been interesting cars like Ligiers. BRM's but not that often.

And then you have Judy Lyons, which frankly makes it all look a bit silly.

I fondly remember the Classic as a cheap, historic meeting at Silverstone after they tried for years to mimic Coys with no success. It was great for a few years, just cars, racing and clubs.

Then sadly it got picked up by a promotion team who threw in bands, all sorts of crap I am not interested in and whacked the prices up.

it is still good value to a lot of folk, but I am not going to pay hosting fees for bands I don't want to see, and as I cant opt out of it I simply prefer to do something else.
Christies and Coys were great - I enjoyed them, but then again I never saw those cars racing when they were state of the art, so it was a different experience for me.

My Dad always went on about the good old days when you could stand on the pits balcony at Silverstone at an F1 meeting and look down into the cockpits, but even he was in awe of the access and spectacle we enjoyed at the late 80's/early '90's F1 tests (and at the Grand Prix for that matter, especially on the Thursday before the race, or in the evenings when the pit lane was open).

As you say, things inevitably get dumbed down for the masses. Even the annual MGCC race meeting at Silverstone got changed to "MG Live" or some such bks, so I lost interest after that.

Who or what is Judy Lyons?
