Would he be able to get out of the cockpit quick enough to pass the tests with his lack of mobility?
I think so, its just limited movement in one lower arm/elbow and wrist limits what you need in a modern F1 car. Jumping out would not be the problem.
I question that.

To get out of a modern F1 car quickly, after undoing the harness and chucking the steering wheel out, the drivers first put their elbows on the sides of the cockpit opening and then lift their body weight up with their arms. Robert cannot do this. He's got no mobility in his right elbow - it's fixed at the angle you see it in.

Five seconds isn't a lot of time.
This is what I was thinking.

Can he adjust the angle to fit different cars?

Bit like adjusting the angle on a bike seat? Undo the bolt, realign arm, do bolt back up?

I can't imagine his elbow is 'adjustable', I'd guess that while the surgeons miraculously saved his arm they could not restore all the articulation to the elbow.

Perhaps he needs to chat to the 'Supervet'? That man works absolute miracles for animals.

If he still has half of the talent he had before his accident I reckon he could still be a solid no2 to vettel at Ferrari

I really hope he does achieve his come back in F1. Wouldn't that be a great story! Saw him in Monza back in about 2004, he really the Sauber the beans.

Also, F1 needs more "real characters" and less teenies ...

It is looking increasingly likely that Kubica will be driving for Renault.

I would be delighted to see him back.

Palmer must be looking over his shoulder.

Isn't kubica saying that he can tell how much he's lost in an F1 car with the injuries and time out. Still probably better than Palmer but not up to his former self

I read that comment to mean that he realised what he'd missed out on, the lost years of his career, not any loss in performance. There has been nothing but positives coming from both him and the team about how he drove. He was faster than Sirotkin, and drove more than a full race distance without any reported issues in the car.

Renault have definately about-turned from sunshine and roses about Palmer to a lot of mutterings because he can't get near the Hulk...

I was (and still am) a little unsure how to interpret what he said

I don't think he will be granted an F1 Super Licence.

Aim: Get drive in Renault seat.
Solution: Drive faster than Palmer.
Problem: Arm still doesn't move properly.
Solution: Tie one arm behind back, drive faster than Palmer.
???
Profit!

Could any problem with limited arm movement be addressed with different gearing on the steering mechanism?

If F1 cars have PAS could an additional 'limited arm movement' mode be accessed by a switch?

If cars can be modded to suit Alex Zanardi and Nicolas Hamilton is it possible that an F1 car could be modified to reduce any difficulties Kubica has with limited arm movement.

Renault should at the very least give him a drive in FP1 somewhere
