I said as soon as Kubica was rumoured for the Renault drive and again when Williams were looking at him that he wouldn't get a race drive at either team and I've been proven right.
Great.

There is a huge difference.

Ocon is backed by the junior Mercedes F1 team and not just appearing with a shed load of cash.

You are only backed by a manufacturer if you have shown real talent.

Perez too was part of the Ferrari driver academy.

Yes Stroll was part of the Ferrari academy but Sergey Sirotkin is purely being backed by an investor from Russia.
All the drivers you name paid to be part of the Ferrari Academy. To my knowledge, only Giovinazzi of the current crop has not paid for his place. It’s the biggest difference between Red Bull and Ferrari academies.

Its no secret. Claire williams states the budget in the documentary, cant remember the precise figure but somwhere between 110-120m a year
If that’s Sterling it’s adrift of the figure given to me.

You're wasting your time, ExclusiveJizz only operates on information that supports his 'view'

You can read their FY16 annual report online. They don't break out spend, but they do show revenue from F1 which was £116M for FY16.

Wasn't there some issue about Kubica had an insurance payout which he would have to repay if he ever drove in an F1 race again?

So he didn't want to sign up for 1-2 races (e.g. at the tail end of last year, standing in for one of the many drivers who were dumped), he only wanted a full contract?

I am wondering what effect him doing a single race would have on that payout - I guess none of us will ever know, but it seems odd if that issue has just vanished. Unless that's part of what took so long.

Yes, there was - he received a payout based on future earnings lost (apparently)

as a reserve & test driver, isn't there a chance he'll get to actually race in 2018? (wouldn't exactly rule out either of the main drivers doing something daft & sideline themselves for a couple of races)

If he gets a decent amount of track time during the season in testing and FP1 sessions and shows that he can get on top of the Pirelli tyres and become more consistent then there's still a possibility that he could get a race seat somewhere on merit. The driver market was pretty stagnant this year, but there are a lot of drivers out of contract at the end of 2018, so there should be a lot more movement in the driver market. At least he's getting a continued opportunity to show what he can do in front of all the other teams.

Revenue may not equate to budget, though.

Exhibit A: Manor.

True, but it sounds about right.

Hopefully this happens.

Would not be surprised.

I’m wondering whether they provide any form of engineering or licensing to other teams; the figure I was given was a lot lower

Neither, because Lance's Dad is paying a load of money to Williams, and Sergey is paying a load of money to Williams, and WIlliams are losing Martini next year.

So, unless Kubica wins the Euro Millions, he's not going to get a seat unfortunately.

Well it is, but what can you do? Williams have made their bed now, the best thing Kubica can do is continue to outpace the two youngsters during the practice sessions and advertise himself to other teams.

from the Williams Press Conference earlier....

"Robert Kubica was supposed to drive today, but he volunteered to step aside so the race drivers could get more track time."

i think he understands where he lies at the moment?

The time will come for Williams to make a choice - success through racing (which will bring them reward through publicity and points/prize money) or continue to prostitute the car in the glaring spotlight they are going to be increasingly cast under.

Kubica has done the right thing by stepping aside here - the (negative) publicity for the team will be huge and his standing has raised massively, all deserved of course because he has proven himself the quickest of their drivers, and dignified with it. The man is a class act in and out of the car, there's no doubt about it.

This Kubica situation pisses me right off, and I'm not even sure whom I should be angry at. hehe

That Abu Dhabi test was a right farce wasn't it?
