I also thought the TV weren't allowed to have images of the government building last year. They are showing it a lot this year, a change of mind or forgetfulness?

Ted or crofty also said that last year people weren't allowed to spectate from the balconies that line the track even if you lived in the houses or apartments which sounds very strange but they're relaxing it for this season, Singapore is the same apparently

Mercedes and Ferrari will most likely do their Qually sims in FP2 with the super softs.

Perez binned it in the tight corner which I throught would be the scene of most accidents in 2016 but we had to wait until 2017 to see it.

Bit concerning the tyre tethers didn't work at such a low speed crash.

That sounds like an urban myth. If you mean Government House (behind the pits) it isn't a main government building anymore, that's all up the hill near the Flame Towers. Also, they are very proud of the building, hence it's prominent place on the circuit route and for the Victory Day parade.

The wheels aren't tethered though are they otherwise they wouldn't go round would they! It's only the hub/upright that's tethered and that remained fixed to the car, the wheel became detached from the hub though

A few of my friends with apartments on the track held balcony parties last year without any issues.

Interesting to hear Ted discuss the recent clarification on how much oil burn is allowed if any and that it's rumoured to be from Mercedes and specifically aimed at Ferrari, this is why I love F1
There reasoning is, if Ferrari can oil burn, then we are going to do the same, and let's see what happens. A quicker way of getting clarification than making a formal protest, plus it does not make it look like Mercedes are bhing against Ferrari.

It boggles my mind that somebody thought that Baku was suitable for F1 racing at all. After seeing the Perez crash I wonder what's going to happen on that bit of the track if someone crashes when they're all bunched up in the first few laps. There'll only be a handfull of cars left for the re-start. What were they thinking? Or am I being a wimp? It does look much narrower where Perez crashed than anywhere in Monaco, or is that an optical illuson?

It was fine last year?

Yep. Last year was a crash fest up the race itself

Nobody crashed there last year it's true, but this year the cars are wider and have even higher cornering speeds than last year. Never say never...

Agreed, we were all fretting about exactly that last season. If anybody drops it in the castle wall as Perez has and comes to rest blocking or partially blocking the track, we could have a pile-up- and what happens then if the surviving cars are unable to negotiate the carnage? They'll have no choice but to shut their engines down, and the only cars that will make the restart will be those in front of the accident.

It is tighter than Monaco through the castle, and the marshalls are nowhere near as well drilled.

It is very narrow there. This was taken last week, the taxi is on top of where the curbs are now.

In that scenario it would be red flagged and all would be recovered to the start.

Little or no over taking then. I'll have the race on in the background but I don't think I'll be giving it my full attention.
One must assume that with much higher aero levels this year and one massive massive straight, overtaking should be possible here.
I hope you're right!

It's much tighter then Monaco definately.

I'm sure we will see a pile up this year with the wider cars thru that turn.

Might see something like this

I don't think I've ever seen more cars going down escape roads. Hopefully the track will rubber in as the weekend wears on.

Oh dear Palmers hit the wall.

Wasting a F1 seat. Just think what Alonso would be able to do in that car.
