Some very odd goings on there, everyone having issues with consistency.

From T16, they're on WOT for nearly 30 seconds. Is that the longest WOT section of the year?

Feel for Max, but I guess notable that even he got caught out and turned a minor apex miss into a messy crash. Also a bit surprised at the gearbox detaching. It wasn't a very fast shunt and was into a deformable barrier. Maybe it was quicker than I'm thinking.

I doubt there's any gain from strengthening, thereby adding weight and complications, to withstand a sideways impact at such speed. That said, I would assume it would be difficult to estimate speed given that we are used to the cars going like the clappers. We see them in the pits going at fast walking pace yet it is 50mph.

Max, I think, must be pleased with his day's work. A minor error at the end, that's the only blemish, and I bet his pit crew don't mind the extra work if he's trying.

So what's LH going to do tomorrow? All this talk about the wick being turned down is disingenuous. He's struggling, and big time. The tyres don't like him. He's going backwards in the table Sunday.

I think it will be.

La Source - Eau Rougue - Les Combes is usually quoted at 26secs WOT.

Makes sense, I'm just surprised they don't manage to do some controlled failures in the suspension arms / drive shaft to try and protect the gearbox and where it's mounted - maybe that is the controlled failure and they avoid any risk to the engine etc - maybe as you say it was quicker than I thought.

Max will be delighted, just hope there are no consequences to the bump. He just got caught in a moments indecision with respect to trying to get round or bailing out. Almost everyone else was taking the cautious approach and heading to the escape roads with every little twitch.

It's beginning to look a bit like one of those weekends for LH. I guess it will all come down to any smart adjustments made over night but doesn't look good. Only saving grace for him is Seb didn't look terribly comfortable either and maybe isn't favourite for big points after Friday - but it could be very different today.

I think the winner will be the guy who doesn't smash it into the wall. Obvious statement, but I think it'll be all about avoiding the wall.

Too much energy to design in a controlled failure in my (non engineer, armchair expert view) - the variety of loads on the drive shaft must be huge...

Yep, or the least number of trips up an escape road.

Well apparently, the Swedish investors were trying to throw their weight around in getting the team to favour the driver they support--and Monisha didn't want to stand for that. Nothing worse than a driver coming in and dictating terms to a team, tbh.

Sad times for Sauber.
Sky f1 show mentioned it with a shot of the empty pit wall stool. Then cut to a certain driver looking smug and said nothing.scratchchin

Alonso now has a 40 place penalty, has to wear a pair of comedy breasts, and have a rubber chicken cable-tied to the front of his car, whilst the Benny Hill theme tune must be played by some bluetooth speakers gaffer taped to the airbox.

I hope that Liberty Media are going to move quickly to fix what is a bloody great mess of rules. McLaren are already struggling to keep Alonso interested in the sport and humiliating him with pointless comedy penalties cannot be good for the sport. The guy has three world championships to his name FFS.

Whilst a majority of the blame for the lack of results has to fall on Honda, these penalties make what is supposed to be the pinnicle of motor sport look like a complete joke.

God the Sky presenters are so bloody annoying. Does Ted get a bonus for every time he says "Crofty"?
