So does that mean Kyvat and Gasly at Toro Rosso for the rest of the year?

Really? Its not like he wants for money.

I thought he was determined to stay and had a watertight contract.

I guess it depends if the cheque helps him secure a seat at Williams...

Good point. Although how much are renault going to pay for him to not drive a few races, when we're talking many millions of pounds to get a seat? Its not like they're buying him out of a season. I thought williams weren't at all intersted in jolly but this 25 thing is - in my estimation - causing them more worry than they're publically letting on.

I know they've decided they *can* run two sub-25 drivers but they really dont want to - watching the sky piece earlier with massa and stroll with strolls martini-less branding contrasting massas was quide telling.

So they have the choice of unknown quantities in pdr and rk, or to have a team consisting of two of the big pay drivers in F1, how the mighty have fallen.

Interesting how many ex-drivers have now said they are scared of indycar. Button, DC and Webbah have all said similar since Alonso went there.
I’m not surprised, since Senna’s death F1 has lost one driver to a freak accident. Indy car has had at least 3 high profile deaths, plus Zanardi losing both legs and that’s just what I can recall off the top of my head as someone who doesn’t follow it at all.
And I'm sure there's a catalogue of, maybe not life changing but, very serious injuries such as Sebastian Bourdais's multiple pelvis fractures.

Didn’t Dario Franchitti suffer a career ending back injury too?

Indy Car does seem a bit crazy to me too, I think the Americans are rather less risk averse than the FIA.

Some of the Indy circuits are seriously dangerous places by modern standards.

Really, have you read it?

Sounds more like the cheque got big enough...

Also I'd imagine there was an element of attempting to preserve his own reputation. Van der Garde has admitted that by trying to enforce his contract with Sauber it meant he wouldn't get another drive in F1, I expect Palmer had similar thoughts in the end and opted to bow out early.

Dario's injury wasn't on an oval though. No different from having a similar crash at Monaco in my opinion.

I just watched it back. More of a temporary circuit than Monaco, a lot less techpro, etc?

Dario's retirement was as a result of multiple incidents, not a single crash. His doctor advised him that the next time could end in paralysis or death.

we've not had any unfounded speculation recently so I've just made this up.

The F1 team at Williams want to keep Massa but the Strolls don't like him and are pushing for another experienced driver to help Lance along.

There was a rumour that Alex Rossi was going to make an appearance in his home GP. I don't think Red Bull have any other eligible drivers on their books.

That would certainly be good PR for US races
