I'd say Alonso was (is?) a better racer than vettel, but who would I prefer to have as part of a team? That would be vettel for me, he seems to be better for team development and harmony
Better for team harmony than Alonso? Now there's damning with faint praise. I'm fascinated to know his salary. That'd go some way to telling us who courted whom.
I wonder what this all means for Vettel in terms of him being an ambassador for Ferrari afterwards? Seems like both parties want a clean break. Strange how it seems to have gone sour so quickly, and I'm surprised there was no negotiation on a new contract (I have no reason to believe Vettel would lie about that).

Was that ever a rumour? Or just a nice idea someone shared a while back?I'd love to see him remain in some capacity, although I'm sure he'd take a year out to allow a period of adjustment first. If he were to take on an ambassadorial role, or non-exec chair role AKA Niki, I see no reason why it would need to be at Ferrari specifically. Multi-lingual (ish) 4 times WDC with a good mechanical understanding of the cars...? He could fit in most teams if his driver career loyalties are dismissed.
I'm not sure what an ex-F1 driver can really do for a team that others can't.
Lauda seems to have had an impact on Mercedes but he ran his own airline during his hiatus. Prost was an all-time-great level driver who never seemed to elevate Ligier or Renault. Stewart started an F1 team which (I think) made him money, but had been running in lower formula for years beforehand. Nico is surely as multitalented as Vettel, but seems to just be a pundit.
In fact punditry seems to be main followup career of F1 drivers still in F1. The rest seem to keep racing in lower paid formula.

Shake hands and get more money out of supporters, fans and sponsors. The whole reason Marlboro still pay for the drivers at Ferrari, why McLaren continually used washed up champions up until recently and why the whole paddock club exists.Ferrari get their drivers to do a huge amount of work outside of the car on a race weekend. Buy a couple of cars off them and you're likely to be invited to your country's grand prix at their expense, have dinner with the drivers, Q&A sessions after qualifying etc.
Spend a couple of hundred thousand each year with DHL and you'll get the same.

Kimi?Edited by ajprice on Wednesday 8th July 13:31
Can we stop trying to find a seat for Vettel please? There's so much talent outthere that it'd be a shame to waste a seat on someone who has proven to be average when not in a dominant car and on pole position.
Let the guy start another youtube channel and compete with Rosberg on how many for sures they can squeeze into 10 mins of content.

I don't know what Ferrari did wrong. Vettel simply made too many mistakes and had his chance.
Well last year they took a risk, cheated, have had the engine power pulled back, so that hampered his post summer season last year... and now the start of this season - possibly the next 18 months.Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
