I can't help feeling that crashing into Leclerc in Brazil was the last straw for Vettel. If that had been Redbull they would have stuck up for Vettel like the crash he had with Webber.

If he's out in front he's fine, close quarter racing he makes too many mistakes.

Actually, neither. Alonso is a far better driver, but toxic. I would have Ricciardo.....

And I've read a few times over the last couple of seasons that their cars have been difficult to drive with a tricky rear end. Considering how Seb liked how the blown diffusers let him get on the power really early, perhaps a car with a tricky back end, combined with the turbocharged torque of the current formula, have exposed his achilles heel.

He seemed promising enough in his first three seasons at Ferrari, though he still made mistakes then too, but it seems his crash in the German GP in 2018 was a turning point he's never recovered from.

That really does feel like a "sliding doors" moment doesn't it.

Not saying it was, as I am sure there are people with much better F1 knowledge than me, but had that not have happened I can't help but think things could have been very different for his future

Do you think it was Vettel's talent deficiency being exposed, or his motivation and reliability issues? I can only think of 2014 and last year when Vettel was out-qualified by a team mate, which is not bad form since 2007.

How many seasons out of 13 or so has Vettel been outscored by his team mate?

I don't think Hamilton has always outscored his team mates but I don't see him being labelled as a fraud.

Quite. And now LeClerc..

The German GP unforced crash was a big moment for him no doubt, but also one of endless moments that must have slightly but significantly increased his level of self doubt. Self doubt isn't good for a racer.

Last race was interesting, he spun. If you watch carefully though he started to spin under (very) late breaking, ahead of the contact which ultimately completed that spin - he must have known the move was high risk and would take near perfect braking and accuracy to not mess it up. Did he mess it up due to worrying about messing it up?

I've never rated Vettel as a top line driver like Prost or Senna. 2014 if not an expose of his best talent, certainly was the season that killed his reputation.

Hamilton has been blisteringly quick every season, he lost his head for a while whilst messing with a pussy cat, but even with an inferior car managed to win races.

Hamilton also has excellent race craft, is a good over taker and doesn't resort to any funny business, nor does he fold under pressure, he is also very fair.

He messed it up because he is crap in an inferior car. He'll throw it off again this year.

There is no seat free at Renault.

Rumours are he is being replaced by geo and kubica to alfa for this year.

Definitely - and more than once I have no doubt.

But how many times have you seen him entering an attack/defense maneuver and seen the error ahead of him making it? He must see that too - and after so many errors in recent years, I think that becomes a self fulfilling prophecy to an extent.

Beyond The Flag had this to summerise his 2018 season:

he spun out in the Italian Grand Prix, the Japanese Grand Prix and the United States Grand Prix, he blew a chance for a podium finish with a first-lap incident in the French Grand Prix, he threw away a victory with a way too aggressive pass attempt late in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and he threw away another victory by crashing with a huge lead late in the German Grand Prix.

Ocon can be moved on, Liberty are paying a large share of Fernandos money, they will do the same for Seb (if he wants to stay of course)..

But he won't be.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Geo/Kubica move happens. It's whether Ferrari are disillusioned enough with him to pay off his final year of contract without him actually having to drive for it.
