Had to laugh when I saw that, after reading the slating he's been getting here.

Great to see Lance 'only in the team because his dad owns it' Stroll take pole, too.

Looking forward to seeing Seb and Lance over the next couple of years.

Aston Martin must be delighted to see their two cars in the top 3 and the one in second on the grid still with an Aston sticker on the rear wing. biggrin

Um...Seb and Charles have the same car though, so no levelling going on with the rain?

I think 'same car' has been debatable this season. There is definitely something not the 'same' with Seb's car.

Either that, or Charles is utterly hopeless in the wet.

Both Ferrari drivers were excellent today. Great to see Seb back on the podium. Hopefully a nice reinjection of some confidence.

He so needed that podium!

And as ever, when out of his car he's a complete gent - one of F1's most charming characters.

Didn't think I'd be saying that when he first came on to the scene!

indeed. ive warmed to Seb over the last year or so.

I dont rate him as a driver of Hamilton or Verstappens calibre (hes clearly a very good driver though!) but as an individual or ambassador for the sport you cant fault him

As a brand ambassador for Aston Martin i think it fits very nicely indeed

I wonder how he'd have done in the Racing Point today?

We know he's quicker than Perez and Stroll, could he have actually won, or at least given Hamilton a close race?

OOI how have you worked that out, they've never really been in similarly matched cars.

Perez has flashes of brilliance (possibly today was one of them) - but he's a midfield journeyman. Looks like most team owners think that way, too.

You'd think that, today of all days, Vettel would be prone to one of his recent errors but absolute kudos to him - held held it all together for a deserved podium smile

Pleased for him. He's been fairly dignified in what is a car-crash of a season.

I would love to see Perez and Vettel in the same team, I think it would give power to the team and to each of the drivers.

Ah well, Stroll it is - ‘tis a pity.

I don’t think Stroll is terrible, qualifying proved that, it is simply that the driver that turns up varies so much in quality - as today demonstrated.

To be fair to Stroll, the call to put him on new intermediates in the last phase of the race was the wrong one. If they'd done as they did with Perez and left him out, he should have been top 4 at least.

He managed the first third of the race from the front extremely well and, let's not forget, was pulling away from the rest of the field at 2 secs per lap at the start.

There was that weird vibe with his engineer though;

Engineer "Box for new inters"
Stroll "Er, why are we doing that?"
Engineer <harumph> "OK, stay out then"

I agree, his early pace and calm were exemplary; I thought I was going to have to revise my opinion and laud the coming of a new maturity of talent.

With the pit change and failure to “switch the tyres on”, he just disappeared into the mid level where he often resides, in my view.

Hopefully having Vettel to mentor him will reinvigorate Vettel and improve Stroll - we shall see.
