You'd think that, today of all days, Vettel would be prone to one of his recent errors but absolute kudos to him - held held it all together for a deserved podium
Pleased for him. He's been fairly dignified in what is a car-crash of a season.
I did think he'd fold when Hamilton was pressuring him.Pleased for him. He's been fairly dignified in what is a car-crash of a season.

To be fair to Stroll, the call to put him on new intermediates in the last phase of the race was the wrong one. If they'd done as they did with Perez and left him out, he should have been top 4 at least.
He managed the first third of the race from the front extremely well and, let's not forget, was pulling away from the rest of the field at 2 secs per lap at the start.
There was that weird vibe with his engineer though;
Engineer "Box for new inters"
Stroll "Er, why are we doing that?"
Engineer <harumph> "OK, stay out then"
to be fair to stroll, the race winner had the same call, had the same instinct and said no.He managed the first third of the race from the front extremely well and, let's not forget, was pulling away from the rest of the field at 2 secs per lap at the start.

The commentary team were pontificating on drivers having only 10% of the data, but regardless there seems to be a lot of race results where drivers are out strategizing their teams

I found it a bit weird that his engineer didn't congratulate him at all over the radio after getting pole yesterday:Engineer "Box for new inters"

Which makes a mockery of the 'award'. Seb did well - very well - considering his recent form, but Lewis was driver of the season today, an absolute masterclass
Lewis has enough accolades! I'd give it to Perez today. Near faultless race and didn't crack under several bouts of considerable pressure.
Could probably make a case for several other drivers too. One of those races.

I noticed the race engineer replying, it sounded like he was dealing with a child who wouldn't do as he was told. Whether or not that's because he acts like one or not I don't know but I was surprised at the way the engineer replied! I'd agree though, if he'd have been left out then I think he'd have got a podium.

Drive who has been off colour all season also in a car that is at best the 4th fastest overall, He has a reputation now for spinning and in the worst conditions for years he doesn't make a single mistake. He didn't even hit his teammate! lol

I guess it must be a bit weird when your well-performing veteran colleague is being replaced so the bosses son can keep his job. Especially given Perez' history with Force India. If he's that well protected I wonder what he's like to work with.
You answered your own question
Regardless - I don't agree with it though. Lewis' drive was exceptional, especially when taken into context with the car's performance on Friday and Saturday. However, for me, driver of the day was Checo - under huge pressure for much of the race, but managed to fend it off - performance WAY above the expectation

So - a driver having a previously piss-poor year pulls out his personal drive of the year in the most challenging conditions of the year - that's why he was voted driver of the day (clue is in the title - it's driver of the day, not driver of the year...)Regardless - I don't agree with it though.
